Hi all. I am not a one-watch kind of guy (mainly because I haven't gotten found or bought a grail watch yet). Instead, I like to wear different watches for different occasions and different moods. However, I would choose my Marathon GSAR in the event of a catastrophe because of its durability, and because it's an automatic, and does not require a battery. It's definitely the watch I'd want to survive "in the long run."

What about you? What watch would you choose for the apocalypse?

None, there wouldn't be a one that could be of enough help to give a rip about.

... but if we're not being serious, and in the name of playing along, I'd take my Tissot Seastar, simply because it's the shiniest ('blingable') and at least I'd look good when I'd choke to death on the dust of my moms remains.

Forgive me, I'm watching Resident Evil III right now. ;D

GSAR is an AWESOME watch, (and no doubt more useful than my choice because of the tritium) but mine would be a Sinn 856. Tegimented case, nearly indestructible (except for the crystal...) and a newer and somewhat more sohpsticated movement. The second time zone would be useless I assume...

Quartz all the way, probably Citizen eco-drive or a Casio solar G-Shock.. why?? Imagine you fell ill or were injured and were therefore inactive for a few days... your auto would stop and you've now got a pretty piece of wrist ornamentation.

Regards

A watch with a very long strap. So I could hang myself.

Time would become unimportant, since there wouldn't be meetings or work or anything that required me to be on time. And If I survived I could get my "grail" for free.

I thought about MANY different watches, but decided at that moment, I probably would not care to know what time it is. I will be too busy scavenging for my survival that any old watch (probably have to be a chrono with alarm watch) would probably do.

If it's a "I Am Legend" type situation. For sure it would have to be a Quartz with an alarm function and a calendar function that calculates leap year.

Yes, I'm sure the post apocalyptic environment will be full of qualified watch repairers with adequate supplies of specialist watch lube...

Dude! Seriously. It's the apocalypse. The only time left with any meaning is "Too Late!" You're not risking missing any buses.

Btw - is a GSAR "durable"? I thought they were just the usual ISO spec mech diver - ie less shock resistant than a $50 quartz.

I'm pretty sure if the world ended, it wouldn't matter what watch you were wearing since by definition "end of the world" means everything on Earth is destroyed and ceases to exist.

That said, should end of the world just mean a nuclear apocalypse where some people survive, any mechanical watch would probably still function, as the EM pulse would have wiped out all electrical watches.

However, in such a nuclear wasteland, time would probably be irrelevant, although it might be fun wearing a watch on the third arm that would probably sprout from the back of my head.
