Whats with all the tissot seastars from India

on Ebay? There seems to be a large number of Seastars available from India. How is it possible to always have them for sale? I am partial to Seastars but are they a ripoff?

I have looked, and most of the watches seem to have been restored. Some of the dials have strange colours, etc.
I take it the actual watchstore is called "watchlotus" or "old watch collection"? The pics seem to me to be very much the same.

and "oldprecious". seems to be a lot of the same type of watch. Anyone here bought one?
Hi girls,

really. most watches from India are simply trash: rotten case, rotten
movement, poorly painted "Mumbai dials" in strange colors, even not
acceptable as parts source.

The majority of the sellers are honest people; they don't hide deficits, and
everybody equipped with minimum one reasonably functioning eye can see
what to expect.

But this situation bears a chance for real bargains: Already the population
number makes it likely, that there are some items beween acceptable and
desirable. And as many buyers click further after reading "India", there is
a good chance to get a nice watch at a low price, even including shipping,
taxes and duties.

I collect Seastars and have seen the 'Indian redial' watches. A friend bought a Favre Labre watch from one of them, and while the case and mov't were fine, the repainted dial was awfull, and it now sits in a drawer!!

I have on occasion had a look thru their watches to see what they've got, and I have found a few watches with original unrestored/painted dials with the rest of the watch looking clean too, so it may be worth having a look sometime?!!

As for buying a repainted one?? Wouldn't touch one with a bargepole.....so to speak ;-)

I tend to look out for good honest auctions where someone is selling Grandads/Uncles old Tissot watch that they don't know much about!! I've picked up some really nice one's for not much money at all, some needing no work at all, and others maybe a service and new crystal or a polish!!

I am getting interested in Seastars as well. I won one that ended up needing $160 worth o f service. I did get a ladies seastar in pretty nice shape which is at the LWS as we speak. cant wait to see it. I kinda thought the India seastars were a little too good to be true but i will keep an eye out.
There's no such thing as a free lunch. Watches from India are almost all worthless, over priced junk. Another problem they almost all have is bad sweat corrosion. This hasn't been mentioned in other messages, but if you take the bad off many of them you will see the case is deeply pitted. They grind off as much as they can on the back to make the case look more passable when they sell it on eBay, but the insides of the case backs are often a horror.

Add to that replating of the utmost incompetence, a complete disregard for whether the watch works or not, the most impossibly ugly dial "reprintings" that can be imagined, and it's a lot easier to just flush your money straight down the toilet.

All this is very sad, because when Indian watchmaking is good, it's very good.
A little too much chaff and not enough wheat, IMO. Too bad really because the odd unrestored Tissot or Favre-Leuba might easily get passed over amongst the junk, if you can find the time to sort it all out.
Sorry guys, for interrupting. What is the bottom line? Bid or not to bid from ebay if the item from India/India seller? Me to seen this tissot and favre-leuba in ebay which from India.

No, I wouldn't bother mate!! The majority of them have had the dial 'professionally refurbished' but most aren't up to much, and as said before, can have problems elsewhere, ie mov't & case.

Some of them have had the dial repainted in bright colours like yellow, green and red etc which just look wrong, and will be worthless, unless YOU really like it and are planning on keeping the watch a long time?!!

Personally, I'd look elsewhere for good honest examples that havn't been messed with :-!
Hello again guys,
I took sometimes to browse some vintage tissot from India in ebay. It happen to be from same source- Maharashta Mumbai. Yes you can create lot of nickname in ebay but not the address. I think they are enterprising this refurbish vintage timepiece. If you all happen to browse in ebay, the timepiece offered are too good to be a vintage or I may say likely new old watch. Not yet to know the condition of the movement because most pictures taken only in one pose (no many pics). Most description stated manual wind movement. So many manual wind movement can be made in India. I'm just afraid its all imitations. Can somebody here recheck my research. Now I'm going to do browsing on favre-leuba.
Thanks.
And they do look identically same!!!
I think they are all probably old watches, but they repaint/refurbish the dials and quite often, in my opinion, they look TOO new.

I would like to see some pics of the mov't, but it's not really a problem as I won't be buying from there to start with!!

Look elsewhere my friend....same with Favre-Leuba, they do the same thing to them too

Agreed. I'd look elsewhere also, though some of them really do look tempting!
Re:Favre Leuba

Well guys, need you all to see this two pics. Can you tell whether this authentic or not? From ebay though, hope you guys can identify this piece and its movement..

Hope you guys can help me with this.
Thanks.
Re: Favre Leuba

I see nothing that makes me think this is a redial or a fake of any nature. Check the movement against Dr. Ranfft's database for more data... I can't read anything from the pic.
Re: Favre Leuba

Thanks Eeeb:).
