While reading through the posts for the new Project Forum watch 2012 I found a number of posts about alarm watches. This peaked my interest as something I would like to add to my collection. I started to trawl the bay to see what I could find but I appeared to be limited to two options, high end Swiss or some old Poljots. The Swiss are way out of my budget and the Poljots all appear to be 36mm or smaller.

In the posts for the project watch someone listed a Seagull movement (ST2800) and I was wondering were I might find any watches that use this movement, or infact any Chinese alarm watches.

I am looking for something dressy at around 40-42mm, mechanical or automatic, preferably under the £200 price bracket. Does anyone know of any alarm watches that meets this requirement?

Any advice would be most appreciated.:)

Regarding Poljot Alarm watches there are quite a few, and most that I have seen lately are certainly larger than 36mm. Julian Kampmann at poljot24 for example have some 20+ russian alarmwatches of different types.

Chinese alarmwatches I know nothing about though, I'm afraid.

Russian alarm watches come in all sizes from ~35mm to ~45mm, but due to the Poljot 2612.1 movement being out of production for several years, stocks of these watches are drying up. Most recent production was from Volmax brands such as 'Aviator'. Also look on ebay for the Poljot 'Russian Aviator' series from about 10 years ago if you like the larger size.

As reported on the 2012 Project thread, Sea-Gull briefly produced the ST28 a couple of years ago but then ceased production. Quality was reported to not be up to the usual Sea-Gull standard. We can only hope that they iron out the bugs and bring it back soon. In the meantime, if you are willing to take a risk, then there are still a few Ingersoll alarm watches to be found out there. Obviously you're not going to want to pay full price. Also keep an eye out for Minorva and Sorna brands and you might get lucky.

Just found a Constantin Weisz on the bay and wondered if it uses a poljot or a seagull movement, the listing does not say. I have not heard of this brand before and I assume that it is Germasian. Does anyone have any experience of the brand?

The site that I found that sells this watch is one associated with all the well-known Germasian brands. Also the dial is signed '25 jewels', just like the Ingersoll alarm watch. The Poljot 2612.1 only has 18 jewels, so I guess the ST28 has 25 (i.e. a full-jewelled alarm train). Besides, I doubt that there are any remaining stocks of the 2612.1 outside of Volmax's dwindling supply.

Thank you so much for this thread I have been looking for a Chinese alarm for ages but could just not seem to find one. This morning I ordered the Constantin Weisz from the German seller on e bay for £65 inc shipping it would have been rude not to. I will be interested to see how it compares to my Russian alarm watches.

You will have to let me know what it is like when you get it. I have to admit that at that price it is very tempting. Maybe you can take some pictures and post them.
