If it was in my budget - at $200, I would snap up this classic Braun with a subsecond dial. Its quintessential Bauhaus:

I love my Mondaine Giant (quartz), and at 42mm it lives up to its name. There's a more modest 36mm model with lugs.

You know what I did for my wife?

I bought a $40 Swatch. She loves it. The thing keeps on ticking away. She throws it wherever she wants and if she wants to throw it away she can.

Get her a cheap Swatch. They're trendy, they're cheap, they're good quality and she can throw it away when she's bored of it.

Just a heads-up - 40mm is massive on my 6" wrist. The Max Bill for ladies is 33mm, as is the Nomos Tangente.

My pick would be Nivrel's 36mm N 07.001 with its big date complication. $219 and made in Germany. Nivrel generally has better build quality and fit and finish than the others mentioned.

Braun's designs are also legit. 33mm.

Yep, very nice. Watchsource.de (watchsource_unlimited on eBay with 2000+ feedback) sells them with Nivrel's 24-month warranty. Shipping is reasonable, around $20.
