Looking at my first Brietling, and I instantly fell in love with the blue SOH pieces. I have a smaller wrist and I am comfortable wearing anything from 40-44mm on the wrist.

42mm
Gold breitling “B”
More literature on the on the dial
White date wheel

vs.

44mm
Silver breitling “B”
Less literature on the dial
Blue date wheel

Appearance wise I am torn! I like the gold “B” it gives the timepiece a more classic look, but the blue date wheel and less literature present a cleaner look.

Your feedback is appreciated, please vote for the one you would prefer!

Now you’ve pointed out the difference between the 2 watches I can see the dilemma but to the casual observer they’re barely distinguishable. You’ll get used to those little details very quickly so I would vote on case size. If you have a smaller wrist it has to be the 42 As they’re fairly hefty watches The perfect combo for me would be the 44 dial in a 42 case but they both look great. Definitely try these on before buying. Best of luck.

Thanks for the insight, definitely going to try on both before pulling the trigger.

I like the 44mm with the blue date wheel, but that's the size I'd wear anyway being a big guy with a fairly big wrist. However with a smaller wrist I'd go 42 because it's a pretty tall one at 44 too.

I have a Colt with a white date wheel on blue dial and it's fine. I think its easy to get used to.

Worth pointing out that you're looking at two different generations of SOH there, as well as 2 diameters. The SOH had an aluminum bezel without a 12:00 lume pip, a polished ring between the bezel and the crystal, a different handset (different shape plus no dividing line in the hour hand) and the 42mm had the date window at 3:00. The SOHII had a ceramic bezel with 12:00 lume pip, no polished ring, new hands and if memory serves all the date windows were at 6:00. Note: there was no blue 44mm SOH, but there was a 46mm which I've pictured below.

Personally I vastly prefer the original SOH; I've owned a black dial/bezel 42mm for the past 5ish years, and it was my first luxury watch. Also worth noting this watch has a seriously long lug-to-lug measurement relative to its diameter.

I've posted the 4 blue-dial variants (42mm SOH, 46mm SOH, 42mm SOHII, 44mm SOHII) so you can make an informed decision. My recommendation would be the original version in 42mm (A17321) and I have and love the Milanese "Ocean Classic" bracelet so I'd recommend that also. The polished ring between the bezel and crystal makes the watch look more elegant and refined.

I was going to say the same as above, you have a SOHI vs a SOHII posted there.

Have you tried on pieces in person? You need to be aware that the SOH models have very long lugs, so even if you like the 44, you need to make sure the lug length is what you're comfortable wearing. The blue B01 chrono (44) on mesh was a watch that I wanted for a really long time, but at the end of the day couldn't buy it because the lugs were just so dang long. They do curve down a lot hugging your wrist, but they're still just very long (too long IMO).

Yeah the lugs on this thing are LONG. They do wrap a bit, and its comfortable to wear, but at 51.5mm on the SOH42 it's definitely a big boy. The SOH44 is about 3mm larger at 54.5, based on the website.

For comparison the Submariner and the 42mm PO 2500 both sit at ~47mm.

I was trying to understand the SOH VS SOHII note you made about the Lume pip. Don't both watches I am comparing have the Lume pip? Marked in blue

Those are both SOHII models so yes. In your original post there was a first generation SOH included as well so I thought I'd clarify, especially since I strongly prefer the original version.

Edit: maybe I looked too quickly and they're all SOHIIs but it's still good to know about the options.

The length of the lugs is another valid point. I'm currently wearing a 51mm lug length watch, but it's thinner than the SOH.

Yeah she is chunky, especially on a slimmer wrist. My wrist is 7" and fairly flat:

For future reference/SEO: SuperOcean Heritage 42 comparison vs 5-digit Submariner
