I've been looking at a number of Patek watches online and I've been surprised by the vast range in prices for watches that look to me very similar.

I've been looking for a nice watch with a second subdial and I'm looking for a bang for the buck type of watch. Meaning I want a watch with good design, good quality, reasonable production numbers.

Can anyone recommend particular model numbers for Patek? Any models to avoid because they are over priced?

I'm a bit worried about overpaying due to ignorance about specific models. Where can I get good info. on vintage Pateks?

Regards,

Mike

Mike, try the "high-end" forum here. BTW, my uncle has one.. wore it to dinner yesterday.. looked great!
Well, it's a thought, but I'm not really looking at the "high-end" price tag stuff, and that's what that forum seems to be more about. I don't see much discussion around the vintage type stuff.

Yes, we are not about a number of things that 'high end' watch owners seem to cherish... but if you can find a Patek that is not at the high end of the pricing, its a fake.

Generally the more finishing and work a Patek takes to make, the more it costs. Complications are a major factor in high price. At the 'affordable' end, they have had a simple sub dial line for a number of years. While they are beautiful, I can get a Longines vintage that looks and runs as well.

Interesting, are you saying implying buying a low end Patek isn't worth the extra coin? Also, you think most vintage Patek's are faked?
I'm looking in the 5K or so range...

They are great watches but some vintage Longines are just as good in design and timing... and any casing differences escape me. But it is a great brand and, as my .sig indicates, company history is important in how you feel about your watch... Patek has that in spades!

I do not know enough about the Patek market to say how common fakes are... But I've seen Asian websites full of fake Pateks so some care would be necessary.

Buy what you like... what makes you feel good. That is what watches are about.
