Lay it flat on its front and give it a little wobble/swirl to get it going in one direction or the other and then do your best to put it level again quickly whilst it's turning.

Try it a couple of times and if it's unidirectional winding (one way only), you will quickly be able to spot the direction it freewheels because it will naturally be more prone to spinning for ages in that direction... They can spin for ages if level.
If you can't get it to freewheel in either direction then you've solved it, it's a bidirectional winder.

You could always look it up on the datasheet for the movement though :)
