I'm a minimalist. I really don't want more stuff. If I did, I'd go out and buy it myself. But my wife wants me to buy her stuff, and in order for her not to feel guilty, she's going to get me some stuff, whether I want it or not.

You see my problem. Most stuff other people give me sucks. I'm picky about the stuff I like. And most stuff, I don't.

So I'll ask you, my F71 brethren. If my wife plans to blow $100-$300 on me, what should she get me? It doesn't even have to be a watch (but it can be), or even watch-related. I know it's wide open question, and some of you really don't know much about me. But it doesn't matter, because I'm a minimalist and you've only got about a 4% chance of hitting on something I'll like anyway.

The rules are simple.

Suggest some stuff. Big or small. $0.01 to $300. Single or multiple items. Serious or wacky. Suggest as much as you want, as often as you want. Include pics, links, prices, coupon codes, etc.

Feel free to make an argument about why your suggestion is worth considering. Feel free to trash other's suggestions. It's Christmas, after all, and no one likes a crappy gift. I think it was Tiny Tim who said that.

The person (or people) who suggests the stuff I like the best will get their choice of:

  1. $25 store credit on Lew & Huey Watches
  2. Lew & Huey Official Kickstarter Backer T-Shirt, Men's Size L or XL (US only).
  3. Docvail-made cigar-box watch box. Holds 4 watches and some straps. Pics below (US only).
  4. $50 donation to the charity of your choice, as long as it's not going to something stupid like teaching monkeys braille or putting bionics in turnips.

I may award multiple prizes. Probably, I don't know. I doubt most people here want any of this crap anyway.

Here's the cigar-box watch box, and apologies to David for not making it into a guitar. They're not in the pics, but the box also includes 4 black velvet jewelry pillows.

Re: Every Christmas it's the same thing - the help me avoid another crappy gift CHALLENGE!!!!! Givea

I guess I can be blunt- we are all adults, right?

a fantasy night- dinner at your favorite restaurant, with her wearing your favorite outfit/perfume/jewelry(it doesn't matter if you have favorites or not- pick some, and make it nit-picky so she has to jump thru a couple of hoops to comply)
follow dinner with your favorite activity. As simple as a movie she would not pick to see(but will smilingly have to watch), or as complex as you want to get. Body painting or strip poker, or whatever your fantasy is. Back/foot rubs that take an hour also an option.

the whole point is to make it a challenge to fulfill your 'dream evening', so that she won't feel guilty for wanting stuff. Just realize that next year, you might have to be the one to provide a fantasy night.

Money is a little tight this year, so my husband is getting a book of personalized coupons for all his favorite things.:-!

The holiday season is all about giving... I would send a $300 donation to the Pantagruel Needs A Grand Seiko Fund. A worthy charity... And the giving will warm the cockles of your heart. Everyone wins!

Being a gentleman of sophisticated tastes I can only assume you want the same things I want for Christmas:

Yellow and red silk cravat
New monocle
Copy of Bel Biv DeVoe's greatest Hits (on vinyl)

Tell your wife she can find all three at any of the finer establishments in your town.

American music really hasn't been the same since "Poison" peaked on the pop charts.

And please don't start in with Boys II Men. It's just not the same.

In case anyone is wondering, Chris either: 1) really wants a subwoofer, 2) wanted to learn how to sell stuff in 2010, 3) likes Lilly Allen, or 4) doesn't have an Amazon wishlist that is public.

I'm betting 1 or 4.

Seriously... How about a new suit? I am sure you could get a decent one for $300.

Because el duderino's stormtrooper cufflinks were so frickin cool, I thought that you should get some cool ones too. So , I thought "why be a stormtrooper when you can be their boss, Darth Vader" and found some cool ones. But I thought that you might need something more subtle for business meetings and found some cool tie-fighter ones. But then I thought "why be a tie-fighter when you can be the frickin Death Star!"

Boom.

Death Star cufflinks

On Amazon. $59.95

Get something from saddleback leather. Great quality, long lasting, and with such a variety there's always something you could use. I've got a medium briefcase that I use as a diaper bag, and a large satchel that replaced my messenger bag. The more I use it the better it looks.

This reminds me -- don't know if Chris would want them, but I'm sure others of you might. I am expecting a pair of these in my stocking ;-)

How about a full DE shaving set-up? If you've been using electric or modern disposable razors, DE would be the automatics (straight would be a hand-winder) of the shaving world.

Flea market plastic surgery.

I'm considering some myself. As I age things begin to sag, and I'm afraid of accidentally sitting on them. A cheap nip and tuck is exactly what the "doctor" ordered.

We can go together. This kind of procedure requires a great deal of moral support.

ckot took my idea. Hit up Amazon, and go for the whole enchilada. If you've been using a multi blade, get a stypic pencil until you become accustomed to the DE. Light, light, light pressure until you get the hang of it.
