My view might be even more controversial. CW does nothing for me. There isn’t a single model in the catalogue I like the look of (and I’ve had a good surf). Most of their designs look like a take on something else and they aren’t so interesting or different to my eye to get me excited. I understand the prices are keen and can be made even more keen with a bit of negotiation, but at that end of the market, there are so many other brands I think knock their socks off that I’m amazed at their proliferation.

That said, I’ve literally never seen one in the wild. Perhaps they’re amazing in the hand, but there hasn’t been one I’ve seen and thought ‘phwoooaaaar’.

What am I missing?
Yeh, I dont connect to most of them - this one though is super - sadly no longer made, W10 Sandhurst 1

I wouldn't disagree with any of that. Especially the swingeing fees.

I will just say, that its still possible if you spend enough time on there that you can get some astonishing deals.
Also, I take advantage of the regular 80% off seller fee deals.

I've not tried Chrono 24. But I do know that I've never seen as good a deal on there as I see on ebay. Then again its often just a case of communicating with the seller and getting a deal.

People also badly photograph and badly "sell" their watches. Its amazing how many people that puts off.
In my own humble view, if I’m asking someone for a couple of grand for a watch, a dark and blurry photo with two lines of description just isn’t getting the job done. I’m amazed how earth shatteringly lazy some of them are. I’m more than happy to take the profit they should have got had they done a proper job.

If we ever meet at a GTG I will bring my CW Trident MK3 for you to have a play with, then you will know just what you are missing 😂
Genuinely, I’d appreciate that… I’d love to be wrong, especially as they’re not silly money like the usual fayre.

That's totally reasonable. We all like, what we like. Taste is relative, (except mine which is fact).....

I'll just defend them a little first. You're correct, the quality has been very good. The finish particularly, is very good for the price. Though anybody who follows the CW forum and FB groups will know QC has been a real issue lately.

However, I have two big problems with them lately.
First - What happened to all those fantastic dressier style watches? So attractive, and gobsmackingly good value.
Secondly - Though I preferred the knife, fork, and spoon hands. As @bigclive2011 said, the C60 Mk3 is very good. But that's last thing they released that I liked and impressed me. They've changed their house style, or to put it another way, their language of design. It's all just gobbledygook now.

As for them looking like other watches. We've all seen the Aquataine advert on the telly. (It runs constantly on Sky News). When I first saw it, all I could think off was how blatantly they were chasing the Rolex GMT style.
That may be it…. The last time I watched live tv was before my kids were born (except for the odd bit of BBC news24 if I’m overseas). Did they do an integrated bracelet watch recently? I have in the back of my mind Adrian Barker quite liking it….

Morning all…

Coffee is in hand, so time for todays Brit question, after all yesterdays went down so well….🤭 I think I can summarise fairly well by saying one of us ended up in an isolation tent ringing a bell, and the others seemed to express a resounding meehhh.

So today…G Shocks.

I think it’s fairly safe to say “Forum favourite” you know like a GS or a Speedy….but what say you??

I was a definite plastic piece of junk kids Watch mindset for thirty years.

When I was paid to shoot guns for a living everyone had a G Shock on their wrist, the bigger the uglier, the more buttons the better, whereas I just wore my SM300 every day, much to the sanguine of all including my boss, who always used to look at it and say

”If you break that thing I ain’t paying for it”

Then after being on here I had this change of mind, I started looking at them and thinking, well that one looks ok, and maybe I could wear that one.

But ultimately it was sporty, that much hated ex member (Who I thought was great by the way) who despite all his Rolex only chunterings revealed one day an all black Casioak, and then let it slip he was an avid Casio and Seiko fan, I knew his on stage persona would slip one day.

So I picked up a blacked out Casioak, which i loved, cant read the time on it, but it looks cool.

And that as the saying goes was that.

Now when I open my box there’s “Thousands of em” spoken in a Micheal Caine Zulu stylee.

So what say you….do you “G”

I wish I could "G", however most of the models in the line up aren't just borderline or large, they're comical - getting caught on clothing, uncomfortable and generally getting in the way on my boney wrist...
I do own a G100 which is more manageable, but I honestly can't remember the last time I wore it.
As I recall the last time it was worn by anybody, was when I loaned it to my dad for a road trip across South Africa on my uncle's GS (the BMW, not the watch :ROFLMAO:)
I really, really want to love them. Especially the modded Casioaks, but they're just way too big and ungainly for my frame unfortunately...
Might dig out my G100 tonight and try it on again in the vain hope that it somehow looks right

I have a single G at the moment: Eric Haze x G-Shock GMW-B5000EH-1 a 40th Anniversary model which has a plain black bezel and a metal bracelet. It is fairly heavy, but I like the heft. It's best feature is a positive display which is easy to read - the kool blacked out ones are no good to me as I'd want my reading glasses to see the time. It connects to my phone, so gives a fairly accurate time. The solar charging works well in a British winter light. Japanese made. I might look for a Mr G square later if they bring out anything.

I retired 14 months ago so my watch buying pot has now been severely reduced, so all my last purchases have been Affordables.

But I have far too many anyway so I really should start losing a few 🙄
I retired at xmas 2019 and I've bought more watches since than before.
Started with a BB58 retirement prezzie and 1926 for her indoors.
Then 2 Bremonts, 2 Breitlings another Tudor and a Longines plus a couple for my missus.
It's not as though I'm loaded or had a good job, I was only a CNC setter operator but the watch bug has definitely bitten me.

A nice selection! I think us CNC lot are pre-programmed to like shiny, complicated things :ROFLMAO: I bought my SMP Chrono to celebrate "serving my time" in 2011.
Ironically, I think it was around this time I bought my G100 as well come to think of it...

I've wasted so much of my life on ebay. I think it's possible to get used to the patterns and styles.

It's like a dictionary or Wikipedia, you start by looking at a specific word. Then two hours later you know about the physics of fluid dynamics, how to weave Azerbaijani carpets and why they're different from Khazakstani ones, and finally why flower arranging reached it's popular zenith in 1958.
But imagine that with watches. There are hundreds of thousands of them, on both the "sale" and "sold" listings. From 1915 to 1923 models.

Anywho. I agree, unbelievably you can find people putting watches on sale that are worth several hundreds to several thousand with three blurry pictures and two lines of text.
The watches often just look dodgy, so everyone just ignores them.
But if you do the due diligence, you can buy watches still in their stickers, for almost pennies on the pound.

I pretty much only watch 24 hour news, (not the new ranty ones, the traditional ones), and often just put it on for company more than anything else. So I know they've been cycling the Aquataine advert heavily on Sky.
But yes I believe they did release an integrated bracelet watch.

I never got to the bottom of it. But I think when that sister brand Tribus got set up, there was a big shake up in who was running the company, and what the design style/emphasis should be.
I think we're now finally seeing the fruits of that work through into the catalogue.

Well as it happens, I too have moved on to other things as well, so I now wear my BB58 while desk-diving.
I never wore my SMP at work, but that was the main purpose of the G shock - I always wore that while setting/programming (mainly to count down till break/home time).
It got bashed, soaked in coolant and if I recall I also once rapped it with the chuck jaws while polishing on a manual lathe - and it's still in one piece!

I was once pulling a plug gauge out of a conrod and tapped a boring bar that was in the spindle.
Hardly touched it but blood pi55ed out and I had to have stitches.
I'm too clumsy to have worn watches at work.
I wonder effect the coolant would have getting into a bezel.

So first results are in, we as a whole like “G”s with the caveat that the 56mil case width might put off some with smaller wrists, can’t see why, have. A peruse on the daily G Shock WRUW thread, more 6” wrists on there than most places 😂

I ended up scraping the bezel off my SM300 once, and you know what, my boss wasn’t lying, he didn’t pay for it 😂
