Regular Watchuseek readers will already be well aware of Original Grain, the independent watch brand founded in 2013 by brothers Ryan and Andrew Beltran, but a refresher course in all things OG is overdue as we last featured them some 15 months ago.

Watchuseek was in at the get go of Original Grain, writing about them as their first watch was pitched on Kickstarter back in 2013. As the name suggests, Original Grain specialize in watches made from sustainable wood using traditional woodworking techniques, and although there are plenty of wood watch brands out there, some before they came along, and many more trying to emulate Original Grain's success, Original Grain are the pioneers, and, they vehemently believe, the best in the industry at crafting wood and steel watches.

This is not an arroagant boast, it's a claim backed by the quality, design, and the woods used for their watches following five long years of experimentation. In the early days most watch manufacturers simply dismissed them saying a watch made from wood was simply not viable.

But the Beltrans persisted, refusing to give up, with Ryan Beltran actually living in Hong Kong for a while in the quest to find the right manufacturer. Today Original Grain supply the best you can find incorporating wood and stainless-steel watches.

Growing up in Oregon, where the brothers were inspired by the outdoor life and the abundance of nature that surrounded them, Ryan and Andrew have since shifted their headquarters to San Diego. When they placed their first watch on Kickstarter it became the fourth all-time most successful Kickstarter pitch.

A key component to the Beltran brothers' success is not merely their ability to produce a quality wooden watch, but the ability to tie the concept to areas of strong and relevant borrowed interest, with plenty of masculine appeal.

So far this has included watches made from original Kentucky Bourbon Barrels , (read the Watchuseek review here ) tie-ins with Jim Beam , (read the Watchuseek report here ) and the new officially-licensed Reclaimed series of watches in conjunction with the MLB, using the wood from the original seating of legendary baseball teams' stadiums.

All of their watches are made using reclaimed wood, which is extremely sustainable, and 316L Stainless Steel. The base models are powered by quartz, but the New York Yankees Stadium watch runs on a Swiss automatic movement.

Launching today is a new tie-in with Jim Beam using wood from their famous oak barrels. All Original Grain's watches are available for order online-use the code WUS15 for a discount of 15% on all watches.
