Would you consider this alligator strap & watch combination for a casual daily wear?

Hi,

What do you think about wearing this watch & alligator strap combination as a versatile daily wear?

The watch is a rather toolish watch, although the clean deep blue dial and polished bezel give it a notch above the other models in terms of dressiness, and imho it can be a dressy watch, especially combined with the alligator strap.

Now, consider wearing this watch daily from casual wear like jeans, tee, short chino pants... to a more dressy wear like a suit for the office. I think the alligator strap will go quite well with a suit, but I can't make up my mind if it's gonna look good or out of place with short pants/jeans and a tee/polo.

Short answer: No, I would not wear that casual wear.
Long answer: The strap looks very different in the two pictures. It looks OK in the first, but more black than brown in the second. It may just be a lighting issue, though. I would look at a nice sailcloth strap. That would match the vibe of the watch and look good both in the office and at play.

I would wear that combo in both the dressy and casual situations you mentioned. Even though the strap is alligator, the contrast white stitching gives it a sporty vibe. Wear it if it looks good to you; others' opinions don't really matter. I'd also be tempted to try it on one of the Oris textile straps. Think it would look great.

Yes. An alligator strap in brown, black, grey, or blue with a matte finish is pretty versatile in my experience, as long as you're planning on staying dry and the weather isn't too hot. If the weather turns hot, or if you're going to be on the water, you can always put it on a washable fabric or NATO strap.

I have worn lots of alligator straps and I treat them no differently than any other leather strap. They are perfectly fine for daily wear if you work in an office or at home. Certain leathers stain more easily than others but it really has to do with the finishing and the pores of the specific piece of leather. If you submerge your hand then you risk damage just like any other normal leather strap. Drops of water from washing your hands generally don't stain but it's better to dry it right away.

Looks like an alligator print to me (on genuine leather), not actual alligator. If that's the case, I say "you do you."

If looked more like real alligator, I'd say "dress situations only," but that's just me.

Thanks 👍🏻.

Btw, it's a genuine alligator strap made by Oris that comes as stock with the watch.

Easily yes. This is not that dressy a watch. If it were a glossy black strap paired with a minimalist white dial, that would be one thing. But in this case, the brown of the strap and blue are both relatively more casual looks.

For reference, i wear this with well-fitting chino shorts and a smart polo (although i wouldnt wear it with a relaxed fit tee and gym shorts):

TL;DR - yes.

The alligator strap in question is quite padded, and it has contrast stitching, so it's far from dressy. You can even get alligator straps for Panerais, so the material doesn't preclude casual use.
