The U-Boat U-42 Unicum is another watch that raises the question, would you if you could? Some shy away from its bulky 50mm size, while others love the imposing presence it has on the wrist.

At Baselworld 2018, Italo Fontana presented the updated version of the Unicum, increasing the personality of the model with additional Steampunk style features. In the brass dial, which has been naturally aged, Italo applied a skull in relief making the appearance of the watch even stronger and more rebellious together with a well-executed distressed vintage look.

The case, with its 50mm size, excluding lugs and the huge crown, makes a bold statement and the bezel, rotating in either direction and lockable through a patented mechanism have been scratched on purpose, treated with an IP black coating and special acids, and hand finished adhering to the finest artisan traditional techniques.

The watch is crafted by hand with each watch finished in a different artisanal way for discerning consumers looking for a unique and highly individual watch.

Completing the new U-42 Unicum is a handmade and hand stitched calfskin leather strap with a natural distressed appeal and with a “tattoo style” pattern coming from a medieval manuscript made through a laser treatment.

The watch runs on a specially modified Swiss Movement which features hours, minutes, and seconds and is water resistant to a depth of 300 meters.
