The game is simple. Post a scenario (A or B), the next poster picks the better option and posts a scenario of his/her own.

I'll start:

Would you rather:

A) Get a free $US100K to spend on watches (selling prohibited)
B) Get a free $US50K to spend on a car (selling permitted)

Definitely A.

Would you rather have:

A) All vintage watches (~3-5 watches)
B) All modern watches (~3-5 watches)

A) a lifetime warranty on a watch purchase
B) an all paid Baselworld vacation
My local JLC AD was offering (A) with service provided by their in-house watchmaker as a recent holiday promotion. The Rolex boutique was touting a 4 year factory warranty (instead of the usual 2 year warranty), but I found that it didn't cover routine maintenance. A lifetime warranty doesn't really mean much if it doesn't cover routine maintenance, for example Rotary has a lifetime warranty but it requires you to perform a factory service their watch on a regular schedule at an exorbitant price.

As for the Baselworld vacation, it would depend if it included trade level access to the exhibits, i.e., will they let you try on the watches, as opposed to just looking at them in the display cases.

Where I live. Definitely (A).

- In NYC area, from my experience. Many my friends bought luxury cars like BMW, Benz, Lexus...etc. Within first week or month. Many their car exterior parts have been removed. More than 5 got scratched by people's key or knife all around. One got his back wind shield smashed. Two got side window smashed and stereo got stolen. These are friend reported from different neighborhood. Manhattan, Queens or Brooklyn, even neighborhood I thought was safe. Simply its not about they have their own garage or not. Simply parking on street for dinner or visit friends, there are risk like that.
- Car depreciate value way quickly than watch. 15yr a car vs 15yr a watch.
- Car need insurance. Car need gas. Car need service. Sometimes you do get tickets. Watch only need service.
- Car put life in higher risk. Even if you don't hit people, people might hit you. Accidents happen and sometimes there is no 2nd chance. Watch...not often your life will be at risk encounter someone try to mug you. If that happen, most likely they just want money or your watch.

100K a watch will be a top tier piece of art in Horology. 50K a car is not so top tier driving machine. I'll pick up a Patek as a heirloom.

Come on guys, don't break the sequence. You choose A or B from the poster above and make your own scenario.

Im a newbie so I like B!

A for sure. I'd buy a Blancpain and it would feel great owning it expense free.

Would you rather:

A) Incur an investment loss of $US5000
B) Be forced to buy a solid gold Invicta for $US5000 and not be able to sell it

B,at least I can sell the "gold" case and bracelet, remove the movt, crystal and melt the gold (after all I'm a goldsmith..)

If you are given a budget of $10-12K,which watch movement would you go for:
A. 8 days handwound GMT (something like Pam 233)
B. 5 days auto time only (something like BP FF)
C. Quartz with precious metal case and diamonds (like Franck Muller or Hermes)
Please note, the watch model are given only as an example

B - I have no need for a GMT, and auto is nice.

Would you rather:

a) Have 3 watches from your favourite brand's line-up
b) Have your favourite manufacturer design and build you one watch exactly as you'd like it
Example if you would

A, the only brand that contains 3 or more models I really like is Grand Seiko.

Would you rather:

A) Win 2 million USD but give away all your watches and never buy another watch for life.
B) Get $100,000 spending money for watches.

I choose B
Would you then:
A) Tell your wife that you chose $100,000 of watches rather than 2million cash
B) Keep your mouth shut

B) for me
You forgot to set a scenario. So I'll answer the previous question.

Obviously keep my mouth shut! (Theoretical as I'm still single)

Would you rather be allowed to only have a (A) whole collection of affordable "tool watch" (where you can wear it everywhere at ease) or a (B) collection of expensive "dress watches" (that is so fragile you probably need to bubble wrap all of them as you wear them)

Ok I'm exaggerating. But it's just a scenario.

B, I'd take that money and pick up a serious watch.

A) $50,000 usd on one watch for the rest of your life (no selling and you can never buy another watch)
B) $50,000 usd on 10 watches (no selling, but you can buy as many more as you want)

B. I'm relatively new to this so can't even think of a $50,000 watch I'd want (and that's not enough for a 5517 Milsub) but with $50,000 I'd have all my grails!

Would you rather:
A. Have your grail as your only watch but never be allowed to post on this forum again; or
B. Have to own what you consider to be THE ugliest watch and have to post every day on this forum in one thread or another about how much you love it.
