This was a long time coming, folks, but we’re proud to announce that we’ve partnered with Tropic Straps on a great giveaway contest that will be running on our @watchuseek Instagram account starting now through Christmas Eve. It’s a giveaway that I’m especially keen on, as I’ve personally been testing out a few of these straps and as a slightly OCD watch collector with WAY too many straps in my house, I’m happy to say that the brand did a great job with the relaunch. Prior to this, my favorite variant of “tropic-style” strap was the one that comes on the Oris Divers Sixty-Five, but these new Tropic releases have now taken the lead.
The premise is simple—follow @watchuseek and @thetropicstrap on Instagram, and share your best, most creative watch photos using the hashtag #WatchuseekTropicGAW. On December 24th, we will announce our top 20 contestants and begin our audience-driven voting. Between the 24th and the 31st we will narrow the field down from 20 to 5, and from there the winners will break down as follows:
- 1st Place: (selected by WUS & Tropic Strap) Three Tropic Straps, choice of colors.
- 2nd Place: (selected by WUS& Tropic Strap) Two Tropic Straps, choice of colors.
- Audience Choice: (the member of the top 5 that receives the most votes) One Tropic Strap, choice of colors.
The rules are pretty open ended, though do note that is a photo contest and not a “digital art” contest. Digital photo edits are obviously welcome, but so long as a sense of realism is maintained. Also, only new posts with the hashtag will be considered. Anything posted before December 10th (adding the hashtag after the fact) will not qualify.
If you haven’t seen or heard about the reboot of the company, we wouldn’t blame you. They’ve slowly worked their way into the market, and having tested a handful of their straps myself I’m confident in saying they’ve done a bang-up job of reviving the old brand. Rather than just trying to recreate the original from scratch, the brand actually owns and is using the original molds from the ’60s icon. The brand has plans to grow the model range in the coming years, and is backing their straps with a 2-year warranty.
