For the first time ever, French watchmaker YEMA will be releasing their Superman French Air Force limited edition timepieces to the general public, thanks to a brand new redesigned Collector’s Edition.
Inspired by the brand’s legendary Superman Heritage, the new Superman French Air Force line is part of a collaborative effort, as YEMA teamed up with the French Air Force (Armée de l’Air) to design the timepieces. That means ensuring they’re made to meet the requirements of both fighter pilots and diver rescue personnel – which is evident in the dual SEA-AIR features of these unique military tool watches.
YEMA is no stranger to such high-profile collaborations. Since 1948, YEMA has designed watches in partnership with renowned scientific and military bodies such as France’s Air Force as well as the country’s Space Agency — with the first collaboration with the French Air Force dating back to the early 1970s, when YEMA produced one of its very first Superman models in order to equip a special operations team of elite rescue divers. As recently as 2017, a special Superman model was made available exclusively to French Air Force pilots and personnel.
This latest YEMA Superman French Air Force special edition is based on the same idea, only this time, the new collaboration will also be available for purchase by consumers like you and me, with a portion of the proceeds going to support veterans. YEMA is donating up to 12.5% of all sales to the official French Veterans Foundation (FOSA).
Since this release is a special edition, however, you’ll want to move fast and pre-order now to ensure you don’t miss out! Limited to only 1,948 timepieces for each of the two models, these military-grade collector’s pieces won’t last long.
The YEMA Superman French Air Force Edition
This new Superman comes in two versions: black PVD coated and brushed stainless steel, both available in automatic and quartz. As with YEMA’s Superman Heritage Bronze, the French Air Force edition is available in two case sizes, 39mm and 41mm. The unidirectional bezel is steel with black aluminum insert, and features the same iconic bezel-lock mechanism as the very first YEMA watch designed for the French Air Force back in the 1970s.
Dials are matte black with the “French Air Force” logo printed between 8 and 4 o’ clock. The blue, white and red-colored French national insignia used on military aircraft since World War I replaces the 6 o’clock hour index, and is stamped on the crown under a crystal coating. The hands are black PVD coated, while the seconds hand comes with a head shaped like a shovel, a nod to the brand’s iconic 1970s style.
Within beats either YEMA’s in-house caliber MBP1000 movement, or quartz; the choice is yours. The self-winding mechanical movement has been designed, developed and assembled at YEMA’s Morteau workshops in the Jura Mountains. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a power reserve of 45 hours. The movement is protected by a caseback constructed out of 316L stainless steel, embossed with YEMA’s historic crest.
The ultimate all-around tool watch, the YEMA Superman French Air Force was specifically designed to meet the requirements of air and ground personnel, offering precision, resistance, reliability and extreme legibility at all times. The two models, made to equip all Air Force personnel — from fighter pilots to rescue divers, as well as ground personnel such as technicians and mechanics — are the result of two years of product development, part of a joint-venture with French Air Force senior staff who participated in design, prototyping and testing the watches.
The dial is protected with a scratch-resistant dome sapphire crystal for added durability. What’s more, it’s highly legible, with embossed white markers contrasting brilliantly against the matte black dial. For increased readability in low light, the hands and markers are treated with Swiss Super-LumiNova C1.
Designed with both divers and pilots in mind, the watch is water resistant to 300 meters. Teamed with a 316L stainless steel bracelet with a secure-lock feature and divers extension, the bracelet is made for quick and easy adjustment over a divers suit. Additionally, the new Superman also comes with a unique pilot watch canvas strap, specifically selected for its rigidity under even the most extreme conditions.
Each piece in the limited-edition YEMA Superman French Air Force line is engraved with a unique number from 0001 to 1948; you can reserve your preferred number online (subject to availability). But with such a limited number of watches being made available to the public, and priority given to Air Force staff, you’ll want to pre-order ASAP to ensure you get your hands on one of these military-grade collector’s pieces.
Want even more incentive to order early? Until May 5th, you can take advantage of YEMA’s special early bird offer, good for 10% off. All orders come with free shipping plus a two-year warranty.
