French watchmaker Yema reissues one of its most emblematic models, the Superman, in a 1970 bronze edition, and available now on Kickstarter!
While its Yema members-exclusive Kickstarter launched on Wednesday for pre-orders, and was fully funded in under 40 minutes, now’s your chance with the official release to the general public today.
The new Yema Superman Heritage Bronze is inspired by the 1970s French Air Force choice of watch; a robust diver. The bronze casing gives it an anti-corrosive edge, making it the perfect mate for both professional and amateur scuba divers.
Yema, has been in business for over 70 years, designing sports watches specifically for diving, car racing, aviation and sailing since 1948. Design, prototyping and assembly all take place in YEMA’s own workshops, based in the town of Morteau in the Jura Mountains, France.
The Yema Superman Heritage Bronze references the iconic French diver watch initially released in 1970, the Superman 53.00.16. It follows on from Yema’s Superman Heritage line released last year and pays tribute to the original virtually indestructible tool-watch designed for professional divers and France’s Air Force pilots.
Yema presents a watch with a natural vintage look, which also holds all the benefits of a modern mechanical dive watch. This Bronze edition of the Superman Heritage collection has been constructed with Yema’s 70 years’ worth of experience in designing accurate and reliable diving instruments.
The bronze case comes in two sizes, 39mm and 41mm, with a brushed finish. The case and bezel (also bronze) retain all key elements of the original model. The Yema Superman Heritage Bronze is water resistant to 300 meters with a bezel-lock mechanism, perfectly ideal for scuba diving. Each timepiece is truly unique as the bronze will naturally patina differently, depending on its use and exposure to weather conditions.
The dial is blue, contrasting with the hour indexes which are cream-colored. The hands are diamond cut bronze and have been finished with Super-LumiNova C5. The iconic “shovel” seconds hand is based on that used in the original, with its head shaped like a shovel. Powering the Superman Heritage Bronze is Yema’s French in-house Caliber MBP 1000 movement. Domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating protects the dial.
The Yema Superman Heritage Bronze was designed in close collaboration with world-renowned professional diver Hugues Vitry. Yema will be supporting Hugues Vitry’s marine scientific expedition: Maubydick Mission. As vice president of the Marine Megafauna Conservation Organization (M2CO), Hugues Vitry is working on studying the sperm whale population in the Indian Ocean. This expedition will include valuable environmental and scientific research that will help create awareness among fishermen, marine operators and local communities about the importance of protecting and respecting these special sea creatures.
Yema will donate 3% of the value of every watch sold to M2CO in a bid to save the whale from extinction.
The Yema Superman Heritage Bronze comes with 3 different band options: brown vintage leather, black rubber tropic, and a navy blue nylon NATO.
The Yema Superman Heritage Bronze collection is available in an exclusive numbered edition limited to 1948 pieces, and it’s live on Kickstarter from today.
The Superman Heritage Bronze retails at US$1,399 but with Kickstarter’s early bird offer, you can get your hands on one for just $699.
