A nicer classic-looking quartz?

Okay, I didn't think I'd be posting this, but here goes.
A family member broke his old Tissot PR100 quartz while trying to change a battery. Well, it was boring anyway.

To give him something nice for his birthday, and to prevent this from happening (at least so fast) I thought of looking around for a somewhat stylish looking quartz. Trouble is, there doesn't seem to be much between really low-end stuff and let's say a Grand Seiko.

My idea was a solar quartz, because it simply allows him not to change batteries in the foreseeable future. I guess up to around 500 would be ok. He has rather simple tastes (not meant negatively) and so the watch has to be restrained.

So far this is probably the best option I've found:

Unfortunately the blue version seems to be sold out everywhere, while the grey is available (82E). It's crazy, almost like it was too popular or something.

Any alternatives to this? Also maybe a bit more expensive?
Solar is not a must, I just think it's probably a really good extra for him.
Open to grey market obvs.

Seiko SUR 309 or 311 perhaps?
Quartz, stainless steel case, sapphire crystal, okay-ish bracelet. About $200-250 new on Ebay. Not sure if they still sell them in regular stores though.

Here's the 309, the 311 is identical except for having a black dial with just the slightest hint of sunburst.

@Spartan247 Is that a white dial? Mine looks a lot more silver. I still have all 3, but the 307 is on its way out due to being hard to read.
No it’s silver. Might just be the lighting or the color of the strap. I found that the all polished hands got lost a bit on the black and blue dials and could make those hard to read sometimes. I haven’t really had that problem as much with the 307. Plus I have other black and blue dials and this was my only silver, so that factored in as well. All of them are great for the price and what you get. Sapphire on a Seiko for $120? It can be done.

@italy7 is on the right track. A Tissot Gentleman would fit your bill. Lots of options for dial layout and colors.

Hi, a valid alternative could be this blue quartz watch.

If you are looking for titanium and solar quartz, then Citizen is the obvious choice. There's a number of other models that fit the bill. Some are JDM, but can easily be ordered from several outlets who sell them.

Seiko SUR371/373/375/377
Citizen Attesa or Casio Oceanus S100 for integrated bracelet.
Casio Oceanus T200 for a slightly larger wrist
The "new" 43mm Bulova moonwatch
Certina Precidrive for HAQ and sperty vibes - 40mm titanium 3 handers or 43-44mm divers.

Tissot should be out imho, they look like cheap knockoffs of the automatic versions ... like a vegan option to a steak at a restaurant - a pathetic mushroom... you should do better !
