Could not resist this one at Walmart for $30.

I have the similar AE-1000-1, but this seems to be an update.

Features include:

* 200M Water Resistant
* LED Light with Afterglow (there seems to be one LED in the lower left hand corner -- not *great* illumination as EL or at least two LEDs would be better but it seems sufficient)
* World Time - 31 time zones (48 cities + UTC), daylight saving on/off, home city/world time swapping
* 5 Alarms (one-time alarm or daily alarm)
* Hourly Chime
* 1/100 second stopwatch - Measuring capacity: 23:59'59.99" - Measuring modes: Elapsed time, split time,
1st-2nd place times
* Countdown Timer - Measuring unit: 1/10 second - Input range: 1 second to 24 hours (1-second increments,
1-minute increments and 1-hour increments)
* Auto-calendar (pre-programmed until the year 2099)
* 12/24 Hour Formats
* Button operation tone on/off
* Approx. battery life: 10 years
* Graphic seconds indicator; graphic analog local time indicator (both are too small to really be useful -- at least to my aging eyes)
* Crystal is about 1mm recessed -- presumably to help avoid scratches
* Black resin band

The layout of the watch face seems designed to resemble a fighter aircraft cockpit. One Amazon reviewer noted that "seconds are visually marked by an 'artificial horizon', and the analog indicator looks kinda like a radar screen (having an active imagination helps)". As I noted above, both are small enough to be mostly useless -- at least to middle aged eyes.

It is a nice sized watch -- though not "thick" so there will be no issue fitting under long sleeves. Certainly for G-Shock "regulars" using the watch's features should be no problem. The functions work very much like those on a basic G.

The numerals are nice and crisp and a nice size. And the design is at least a notch or two above the most basic, plastic looking cheapo digital watch. It is really not a bad looking for piece for such an inexpensive watch. All in all, for the basic functions a digital watch performs, this watch provides excellent bang for the buck. As an added bonus, the world time features and a 24 hour STW and CDT make this an excellent watch for traveling.

Yes, that one is also on my list - prices are much higher in Germany or I would already have gotten one to keep my AE-1000W company. It has a few advantages - the buttons are more recessed, higher pressure resistance, mineral crystal - however the analogue LCD dial is bigger on the 1000 and the world-map is also cool but I really like the cockpit-design - Casio is really good with that - it's what I like on the GW-2500B too. Have fun with it!

cheers, Sedi :)

I just got a SGW-300HD thanks to ferrarista off Amazon. I actually bought one specifically to do the Zulu mod just like you did with yours. Now I am thinking this one will be a good gift for her younger brother... To Kronos, thanks for the thread, it's strange how the cheapest Casio watches are also the most attractive ones sometimes.

I went to the local stores looking for this watch today but couldn't find it. I did, however, find the AE1000-W and I am loving it. The strap was a 90 minute nightmare to remove the links to size correctly but now it is a perfect fit. Love the map and the little analog in the corner. Fantastic features for the money and has a nerdy super-villain feel to it too!

Congratulations. I don't know if the AE-1000 is being phased out in favor of the AE-2000 -- though I guess that would not be surprising. It *does* certainly seem to be available right now at rock bottom prices.

I don't tend to be a fan of the kind of metal bracelets one tends to get at this price point. After you sized your bracelet to a perfect fit, are you finding it comfortable? How do you like it vs. a resin strap?

I'll pick up the AE2000 if and when I see it, these watches are a lot of fun. I'm not a fan of the lower cost metal bracelets either and this one has the annoying trait of refusing to lie flat (or even NEAR flat) on a table or nightstand. It is surprisingly comfortable now that it is sized and the clasp seems to be relatively durable, we'll see. I actually like it a bit better than the resin strap for comfort but as you can see from the pics, I don't have a lot of hair on the arm, I would not recommend this to someone who does because I think it would be a real hair-grabber.
