It would make more sense if the watch looked like the one worn in Jaws, or if they used a bracelet similar to the Speidel Mach 1. Not a fan of the case style. Should be a $200-$300 watch based on the quality of the production.

Terrible cheap and nasty looking bracelet, they should have paid homage to the one that made this watch famous with a better made version of this.

The watch is ok but somehow it lacks that vintage feel that the original had, feels like a bit of a miss from them..
They should have gone with the traditional bezel with an insert like the original, the bezel of choice here spoils the watch for mine but each to their own.

What is good is to see this company up and running again.

Couldn't agree more. I noticed this model a few months ago and thought it was a missed opportunity that is wayyyy over priced. The case, dial and bezel are all a miss and the bracelet? Really? The one thing that actually made the watch unique? A modern upgraded version of the bracelet alone would have been worth some coin. Would rather have a vintage version at half the cost.

After seeing the blu-ray, I became of the opinion that the Mach-one was the square end, polished version. I know the watch time article featured a curved, bark speidel, but that was just because the bands were very rare back then.

It's not even remotely the same company.

One thing we noticed prior to the watch time article being published is that the trademarks on "Alsta" and "Nautoscaph" had run out. It would have been a simple thing to secure them, but we didn't want to do exactly what has been done, that is, market an Asian homage with the wrong case, wrong bezel, etc. it's easy enough to make one close enough by customizing a Seiko diver.

I actually think this is really nice. Just read about it in the last QP mag. I think comments of it being overpriced are harsh. The guy (a Scot) basically bought up an old brand after taking a real fancy to it, then spent two years building the best watch he could on his own dollar. The reason it used the seiko movement was to keep the costs down. Swiss movement would've pushed it above a grand. All parts have been made in either Switzerland or Germany. Given that the dude has to make some kind of profit and it's his first flipping watch, with all the design and set up costs that come with that, a retail price of ÂŁ665 seems pretty fair to me. I hope they do well.

this watch and bringing the brand back could have been awesome if done right. instead it failed in every aspect.

you didn't even have to do much to make the watch a must have either. just had to give avid watch people more than what you did. but you didnt do it becuase you did't want to sacrifice profit.

the bracelet, the dial... "the type of person that wears alsta" and the shady way to compare the nh35 to the original movemnent.

the people that are you're target audience are have spoken and nobody is going to buy it.. it reeks of a money grab

i don't think many would buy this even at half the price you're trying to get.

vintage all the way....then resco....then..something other than this.
