Background

I have been a watch enthusiast for most of my adult life and was mostly interested in mechanical watches.
Over the last few years a couple of things happened:
1. I realized I am enjoying quartz watches more than ever, due to their practicality and accuracy.
2. I don't need a big collection, 4-5 watches are enough for me (currently at 1 automatic, 1 HAQ quartz, 2 solar quartz).

It was my birthday in June and I bought a brand new OCW-S400-2AJF all the way from Japan (arrived in 5 days to UK).

About the watch

The S400 is one of the fairly new releases from the Oceanus line (came out in March of this year), and it's part of the Manta series.

The case and bezel

The watch features a titanium case with alternating brushed and Zaratsu polished surfaces.
It measures 41.3 mm in width, 46.5 mm lug to lug, 9.2mm thick (measurements provided by Casio), and I measured approximately 39mm at the bezel.
The lug width is 20mm.
The case is covered by a scratch-resistant coating.
The bezel is fixed, featuring a sapphire glass insert that uses colour vapor deposition to give it the colour blue.

The bracelet

It is also titanium with a surface treatment, featuring the Manta design.
The clasp is a simple twin trigger release, but it features an on-the-fly adjustable system, allowing it to be extended by approximately 5mm.
The bracelet links are joined together by pins and collars.

The dial

The dial is blue for this model, other 2 colours are also available, black and green.
It features a wave pattern, applied indices with Neobrite luminous material and a framed date window at 3 o'clock.

Other features

  • Overall weight: 79g
  • 100m water resistance
  • Multiband 6 (Japan, North America, Europe, China)
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Solar charging
  • Double-sided anti-reflective coating sapphire glass
  • Power-saving mode
  • Fully automatic calendar
  • Automatic hands position correction function

Pros
  • The case finishing is outstanding, the brushed and polished surfaces are incredible.
  • The anti reflective coating on the sapphire crystal is great, sometimes it makes it look as if there is no crystal at all.
  • Truly set and forget watch, with time adjustment and perpetual calendar.
  • The watch is incredibly light and comfortable to wear, the bracelet is supple and flexible.
  • It is a great option for travelling as it's very easy to change the timezones.

Minor negatives
  • The clasp doesn't look as well finished as the rest of the bracelet, the logo is laser etched and not stamped or applied.
  • The caseback is a snap on and the crown is not screw in.
  • The wave pattern on the dial is not as visible as in some of the official pictures.

Conclusion
Overall I'm over the moon with this purchase, it is well worth the money.

Now time for some pictures.

The caseback is a snap on and the crown is not screw in.
You are never going to need to open the case back. It might as well be sealed permanently. I'm not too fussed about the lack of screw down crown - if the factory warrant it as 100 m water resistant like that, then that's good enough for me.

Wearing my Seiko Astron today, which is a very similar themed watch.

It is for easy setting of the time zone:

1. Pull out the crown to the first click.
The second hand will move to the city

2. Rotate the crown to change the Home
City.
● You can also select a time zone whose
name is not indicated on the face of the
watch.

3. Push the crown back in.

More details from manual.
