Hello. I have a Citizen Eco Drive that was gifted to me used many years ago. Recently had the capacitor replaced but the watchmaker said it still would not work. What would be the next step. He suggested sending to Citizen because he does not work on those movements. I don't know the model but here is a picture.

Have you tried an all reset? Most citizen watches need an extra step after the capacitor/storage battery is replaced. It is sort of like with a battery powered watch. After you replace the battery, you touch the AC button to reset it.

On Citizen watches, you don't have to take the back off for a reset.

You will need to find your 4 digit module number (on the case back and starts with a letter and then numbers (example E810) ) then find the online manual and find out how to do the reset.

With a simply 3 hander watch, the reset was to simply pull out the crown to time set mode and leave it for 30 seconds and then push it back in.

However yours is a more complicated model with a perpetual calendar so the procedure might be different.

Make sure to leave it in the sun for a few days to let it get a charge up first

I'm with @journeyforce on the issue of leaving it in direct sun for an extended period of time to see if that helps reset it.

I had 2 Citizen Stilettos that I was ready to turf (throw away) as I hadn't worn them in a while and when I put them in the sun (few hours only) they'd only work for half a day before stopping.

I read (this forum) on another thread, that extended exposure to direct sunlight would assist, so I kept both watches in direct sunlight for two weeks straight...........and they're back functioning like new .

I'm grateful that I stumbled across that thread when I did.

Hope this also works for you.

The capacitor battery has to be put in just the right way in order to get juice flowing to the movement again. There is a tab on it that must connect to a lead housed in a notch on the movement. It also needs to be the correct capacitor battery for that particular movement, as there are quite a few different ones.

It is possible to place it without actually getting a connection. It took me a few tries and I thought I bricked my Eco and would have to send it in, but got in going after some trial and error.
