Considering Lilienthal-Berlin

I'm interested in these watches but came across a thread here mentioning that they're always running a significant mark-down. Which is 33% today. I admit, that countdown to the end of the "sale" does have an effect ;)

It's the aesthetics which appeal to me. In particular, looking at some of their meteorite chronographs as well as their Lilienthal 1, all of which are Quartz. I've not seen a similar Bauhaus style quite like this brand.

Is anyone able to speak as to whether they routinely run such sales?

Chinese quartz watch for cheap.
More like Chinese quartz watch sold at a markup. Could probably find same/similar models on Aliexpress for half their "discounted" prices.

I don't share the negativity stated by others here.

A colleague of mine has a Lilienthal Berlin and loves it. It's a really well made piece and while I'm not into quartz watches, I do like some of their designs a lot. And they have been collecting design awards continuously for the past six years. They were voted "watch of the year" by one of Germany's biggest watch magazine (UhrenMagazin) in 2020, etc., etc. I see them somewhat comparable to Zeppelin, Junkers, and that sort of brands.

Yes, they are a bit of a fashion brand, they also make wallets and sunglasses, but what's wrong with that?

Nomos Tangente, Stowa Antea and Junghans are the obvious "enthusiast" candidates for that style of watch. Nomos and Stowa don't do quartz, but Junghans do. So perhaps it's worth having a look at them (e.g. the Max Bill line, etc.)

Lilienthal Berlin cleary is an entry level „lifestyle“ brand, designed in Berlin, Made in Germany.

  • Quartz (Slimtech Ronda) and mechanical (Sellita for example)
  • Dials made by Schätzle & Cie (not an unknown source, at least for some, like Stowa, Nomos, TenElevenNine, Swatch Group, Union Glashütte, Junkers)
  • Straps sourced from Graf, Marburger and Di-Modell
  • Assembled by Ermano in Pforzheim (some reviews speak of a Berlin based manufacturer but that’ s nonsense, the office is based in Berlin)
  • Their L1 was awarded the German Design Award and the iF Design Award. In 2017, the brand received the Green Product Award for its sustainability concept. The Zeitgeist Automatic "All Black" model won the title of "Watch of the Year" in 2020. Some more design awards from 2022, even one from New York (someone in the US seem to know Lilienthal🤔)
  • Annual output according to Armbanduhren Magazin in 2021: 30.000 which -imho- is an impressive figure for a brand founded on 2016.

I doubt that you could probably find same/similar models on Aliexpress for half their "discounted" prices. Not with Dials from Schötzle & Cie, not with straps from Di-Modell or Graf. Not assembled in Germany, not with a collection of design awards. you will not find AliExpress watches on the Inhorgenta Jewellery and Watch Fair but Lilienthal Berlin😉.
Anyway, that being said a member here was right, I am indeed a fan of Sternglas and (not mentioned) FineWatchesBerlin.

Hey all - I bought my son a Lilienthal Berlin Zeitgeist watch because I wanted a better watch made with Swiss Movement. It is an excellent watch and extremely well-made. The style is a sleek bauhaus modern with sapphire Crystal glass front and back. It’s an automatic so it winds itself no batteries. I don’t know about the quartz movements and styles which are cheaper but for the Zeitgeist it’s well worth the money. My husband wanted one this year too but I found out too late and now they are sold out online and have possibly discontinued the silver and white dial one which my son has. I wouldn’t bash them like I’ve seen in this thread unless you have tried them. These are very well made and about 1/3 of the price of other Swiss movements. Happy shopping!

I don’t recommend them at all. They are worse than the engineers that designed and built the Berlin Airport. The watch doesn’t light up in the dark like it is supposed to and now after about 6 months it’s losing time like an hour every couple of days. So much for German engineering. If you send your watch in you never get it back

It is when you have a 6" wrist...😆😂🤣 - I own 3 LB watches for the last 3 years. Purchased because I love the aesthetic, unique appearance (everyone asks what brand are they? where did I get them?) and German (Bauhaus) design discipline. Good quality of sourced materials for construction, all day comfort and durability, excellent time keeping all at a very affordable price point. Customer service can be quite dodgy (never answer their phones!) and owner's manuals must be accessed online (helpful if you're fluent in German), but my one gripe would have to be the lack of a sapphire crystal. Other than that, I'm quite happy with my acquisitions and wear them confidently regardless of haters... 😉
