Damasko DC66 history and the updates over the years

As an ardent fan of the 66 I always wondered what the refinements/changes were over the years and when the different changes took place.

I don't want this to feel like an obituary, but I suppose it is...

I look forward to hopefully getting some input from you 66ers out there and of course our Damasko guru Mike Stuffler.

The big ones that I am aware of was:

No lug holes, maybe around 2016?

Tightening up of the font, like the floating 8 and the logo closer to the midline.
It does seem like the 8 made its way slowly to its last position in steps.
A 2007 model is farther away than say a 2016, which is farther away than a 2019, etc.
is that how it went, or am I seeing things?

The adding of "Made in Germany" seemed like just recently.

I miss the old Bundstrap that was available in the 66's early offerings. Maybe up until about 2010-11?

Looks like maybe the lugs themselves got a slight change as well?

Personally I liked having lug holes, but I prefer the tighter font on the later dials.
Plus the newer font seemed a bit bolder and sharper.

When was the last production date/delivery?

Mine current one has no lugs holes, a slightly floating 8 and no "Made in Germany"

Cheers.

Do you miss it? that is such the clean look.

If I remember correctly I think Mike pointed out something about the no-lugholes in thicker lugs appearing more oval and therefore less esthetically pleasing.

So maybe around 2016 was the change of the lug shape. Possibly had something to do with the release of the bracelet? The thicker lug made for a better effect with the bracelet?

I do miss it 😢 but it was just a bit too large for my wrist. I sold it and replaced it with a DA47, which I also love. I may at some point pick up a DC56/56 to fulfill my Damasko chrono itch…

I don’t know when the lug design changed. You could probably look through old sale listings or dig through Google images and maybe get some answers there?

Looks like there was more change in the mid teens than in the first ten years of the model. Actually I don't even know when the model was introduced.🙃

The floating 8 is a reference to the numerical 8 on the dial being farther away from the rehaut compared to the other numbers. The last year or so the 8 was more in line.
There must have been some reasoning behind the original placement, but I can't guess at what it was. Can't imagine that it was just an oversight...

Also, the 11 appeared to be a in a slightly smaller font.

not the 66, the 67 Si.
bought from Damasko directly in summer 2017.
no lug holes, not sure if it is a floating 8 or not.
no made in Germany dial.

amazing watch, one that I unfortunately sold. big mistake. tried to buy it back but the buyer wanted a premium that I was not prepared to pay. looking back I maybe should have as it had somewhat of a sentimental value, got it for my 30th bday. it is how it is however. I just got a DC86 to scratch the itch and I have to say I am really happy with the watch, another amazing piece from Damasko. still, should have not sold the 67. it will be dearly missed.

I thought I was the only one who noticed the floating 8! I have a thin lugged 2016 DC66 and it's always driven me crazy. I've even got quotes a few times from Watchmann to have Greg swap in the new dial but I've never pulled the trigger. The 2nd gen dials look better all around to me. Not sure which lugs I prefer. I kind of like the beefy look of the new ones but the drilled lugs are very useful and maybe make the watch look a tad more elegant.

Excuse my ignorance but how can I tell if I have a beefy or thin lugged '16? My lugs are not drilled. I was also toying with the idea of doing a dial swap at my first service (its a long way off though.)

My remark was about the lug-to-lug of a watch rather than the lug width: @StufflerMike mentioned above that the old case was 48,6mm L2L while the new one is 50,4mm L2L. Since the bracelet fits both 42mm cases, I was trying to see how this is possible as the end links are flush with the lugs. Could it be that the L2L measurements are actually the same?
