I have an intense hatred of tang buckles on my leather watch straps. I feel like they diminish the life of some straps. I am also not a fan of butterfly style clasps, which seems to be the majority of the cheap replacement clasps available on Amazon. I am awaiting a Hirsch clasp in the mail, which was a little pricier than I would prefer to pay (~$50-$60), but seems to be nice and recommended by some people in these forums in the past.

Anyone have recommendations for other clasps I might try, other than the Hirsch one?

I'm definitely considering the hidden strap clasp for 2 reasons:
1. Looks like the clasp itself should be a little flatter. Deployants can run pretty tall.
2. The leather being next to the skin should be more flexible, and thus, more comfortable, especially as I prefer a slightly tight fit.

They aren't the sharpest looking clasps, so I doubt I'd go for one on my more dress-oriented watches, but for a pilot? It's a consideration. And they'd probably go well with canvas or sailcloth.

I will definitely consider the Artems for the dressier ones...

The Omega deployant, Tag heuer deployant and Cartier deployant are my favorites. The Omega pushes the tail inside instead of outside with a keeper for a smooth and comfortable finish. The TH has infinite adjustability so strap length and where the holes are placed on the strap is no longer a problem because there are no holes in the strap. like the Omega no tail outside. Like the TH deployant, The Cartier deployant requires a specific strap design, and like the TH deployant, there are no holes on the strap so adjustment is infinite and all strap on the inside. All three of these deployants are available as generic products on the usual sites and around $20.00 but remember each one uses a unique strap design. A regular strap could be used on the omega depolyant but for the full effect use straps designed for the Omega deployant.

You can use regular straps with it without major modifications; it'll just look a bit odd with the cutout for the buckle tongue on it. Using a black spring bar to attach to the clasp helps with masking it, a bit. The most you might have to do is cut off any captive keepers.

There are a bunch of places to get Omega-style straps, though, in a lot of price ranges. Plenty of options, if you wanted to go that route.
