Differences among Orient divers?

My first "good" watch was an Orient Mako. I jacked up the bracelet on it a while ago, and a replacement is like half the price of the watch, so I'm going to stick that one on a NATO or something and just buy another one with a bracelet. Not another Mako, as I'm not wild about the Arabic numerals. But looking at all their offerings now, I'm having a hard time figuring out the differences between the Ray/Kano/Kamasu apart from cosmetic stuff (hands/indicies/bezel markings) and the internet pics aren't much help. Could somebody explain please?

All have hallow end links, run the in-house Orient F6922 automatic hacking and hand winding movement, they have screw down crowns, 200M WR, made of 316L stainless steel (case, crown, bezel & bracelet)

Now the differences:

Mako II:
41.5mm, mineral crystal, arabic numbers @ 6,9 & 12 remainder stick indicies, sword hands, dial color matches bezel color, color options: blue, black & pepsi
Image

Ray II:
41.5mm, mineral crystal, round indices trapezoid at 12, skx style hands, dial color matches bezel color, color options: blue, black & pepsi
Image

Kano:
44mm, mineral crystal, stick indicies double at 12, sword hands, dial colors match and don't match bezel (or red bezel black dial), color options: black, blue, black with red bezel
Image

Kamasu:
41.5mm, sapphire crystal, stick indicies with triangle at 12, arrow hour hand and sword minute hand, dial colors match and don't match bezel (or black bezel w/ red dial), color options: black, blue, red dial w/ black bezel, & green

Great post.
I didn't realise the kamasu and Kano continued with the same f9622.
I had the Mako XL with the 46943. It was the because of that movement that I moved it on. I loved the watch, but hated the date pimple and tiny weeny crown. Totally killed a great watch. I loved wearing it with its funky Kermit bezel...such a shame. The tiny crown and random pimple were just too noticeable and destroyed it's diver harmony.
I wish they'd done a Mako XL 2 like the Mako 2, which solved it's issues. But they probably couldn't increase the crown size, and it'd have meant recasting the case to fit crown and de-pimple. Maybe they tried, but it didn't look right.
I suppose the Kano is the inheretor of the mako XL mantel, but only in the sense that it's 44mm.

To be pedantic, when looking at the Ray vs. Mako (either both Gen1 or both Gen2) they're basically identical watches 'under the skin' -- same case, same bezel, different bezel inserts, different hands and different dial. The bracelet version is also slightly different in style between the two (a polished section on the Ray vs. all-matte on the Mako) but the links, clasp, etc. are functionally the same as well.

In other words, if you're very happy with everything about the Mako except the dial, the Ray is going to be exactly the same but... with a different dial (and handset, slightly different bezel insert.)

The Kamasu has a sapphire crystal and a different bezel than the Mako/Ray. The Kanno is different from the Mako XL with the upgrade to the F69 movement and a different bezel. All use hollow end link / stamped clasp bracelets. The Mako/Ray/Kamasu have mod parts available. There are few if any mods for the Mako XL and the Kanno other than sapphire crystal upgrade.

I believe they are. (mako usa II being discontinued)

Blue and black dials are still around. But my impression is white dials are no longer available new.

Biggest difference between the Kamasu and usa II are the indicies on the dial. I also believe the bezel design on the Kamasu fits better, height wise, to the crystals top/finished edge. The usa II bezel insert is raised above the crystal by 1mm.

Ex: look at the area around the 55 minute mark on the bezel, you can see the gap between the crystal and the bezel insert.
