I just picked up a used Luminox 3900 series from the bay for $50. I can't find anywhere on the web the differences between the 3000 and 3900 series, so I'm here at the WUS brotherhood. Looking at pics, the only noticeable difference I can identify is that the original 3000 series has the bezel marked with numbers at every five minutes whereas the 3900 series is marked with a number every 10 minutes with a stick marker between each pair of numbers. Am I missing something? See pic. A little worn, but I bought it to use as a beach beater. Maybe it's fake, but it looked genuine when I opened it up to replace the battery (Ronda 5-jewel movement).

Thanks for the reply. The tubes emit light very faintly, which is all I expected if anything from an older Luminox. The hour marker tubes on mine, and I think all newer Luminox, are a little longer than the original. Also, I feel like I've seen photos where the tube inside the pip on the bezel is oriented perpendicularly ("vertically" at 60) vs. tangentially ("horizontally" at 60)-mine is tangential. I believe the font for the numerals has changed slightly over time, too. I'm just throwing this out there for anyone to comment if they know better.

I have a Luminox that says 3000/3900 on the back plate. Same looking (blue) face as yours, markings on the bezel every 10 minutes. However, it has a Ronda 1 jewel movement calibre 515. Did you happen to notice what calibre yours is?

The watch is very accurate, off by no more than two-three seconds over a month.

The main differences between the two series come down to case size, bezel design, water resistance, movement, and dial layout. Here are some of the key differences between the two series:
  1. Case size: The Luminox 3000 series features a slightly smaller case size, with most models measuring 43mm in diameter. The Luminox 3900 series, on the other hand, features a larger case size, with most models measuring 44mm or 45mm in diameter.
  2. Bezel design: The Luminox 3000 series features a unidirectional rotating bezel, while the Luminox 3900 series features a bidirectional rotating bezel. Some models in the 3900 series also feature a slide rule bezel.
  3. Water resistance: The Luminox 3000 series is rated for water resistance up to 200 meters, while the Luminox 3900 series is rated for water resistance up to 100 meters.
  4. Movement: The Luminox 3000 series is powered by a Swiss quartz movement, while the Luminox 3900 series is powered by a Swiss-made automatic movement.
  5. Dial design: While both series feature Luminox's tritium illumination technology, the dial designs are slightly different. The Luminox 3000 series typically features a more straightforward, no-nonsense design with larger Arabic numerals, while the Luminox 3900 series often features a more complex dial layout with smaller numerals and additional sub-dials for added functionality.
