Not normally a “homage” guy but the news of this Tudor FXD homage had a decidedly opposite effect. A sub brand of Heimdallr watches, Tactical Frog now offers this titanium NH35 powered alternative for about $190 USD.

If you wanna nit-pick there are some nits to pick such as a bit of play in the bezel and the dial markers being a bit more rounded then the Tudor squares yadda yadda.. but this isn’t an exact copy.

..however on the wrist you go holy crap this is nice and how much did I only spend again?

AR coated sapphire crystal, 200m water resistance, quality workhorse NH35 Seiko movt, comfy strap ..and I also much prefer the darker blue dial and bezel which is motes like the original MN Tudor from the 70’s..

yeah it’s not perfect and you get a frog on the dial but wtf???! The frog logo is also the mascot of the German Navy Bomb disposal unit from memory..

Has consistent indices on the bezel around ‘10’, so this is better then the original in my books 😉
Such a cheap price, don’t understand how any business could turn a profit AND pay their staff a legitimate living.
I believe they work on volume with not a big mark up or profit margin.

Chinese watches have come a long way over the past decade, likely helped by all the micro & larger brands who do business there and the know how gained. I remember when some Chinese cases were made out of car muffler grade steel and would start oxidising in weeks. Now 316L steel is the norm and sapphire crystals..

Wouldn't even pay for taxes on the real deal.

I've been known to buy a San Martin just to tide me over while my name bounces around my AD waitlist for 12 months or more. Somehow makes the wait easier.

Rolex and Tudor can be such a tease. Rolex announced their new sub in 2020, with the tag line "available at your AD on xxx date." That was literally in the advert. So, I went to my AD on that date and asked them to sell me the watch or put me on the wait list. We both had a good laugh on that one. 🤣 Needless to say I'm not enough of a high roller to even get on the wait list...

Not sure I want the faf of trying to buy an FXD when the dealer doesn't have one to try on. Maybe they'll start making "for exhibition only" models. Until then, a homage could be the next best thing.

I like it. Personally, I don't mind the homages. Fakes are a different matter. Something like this I don't have a problem with. I picked up a two tone San Martin sub just for fun and ended up really liking it. It's not the sub I've always wanted, but I enjoyed it and that's what mattered.
I saw an FXD in person recently and thought it was a cool watch with the fixed lugs. It wasn't something I would (or could) drop down the asking price for, but I might for the Tactical Frog just to experiment with the style. To each his own.

I have thus far resisted Ali X and every time I see something at all tempting, which for me this is, I refer to my "want to buy" list. While the FXD is not on that list this new reissue of the Challenge diver is and it is looking like the street price will likely level off at $400ish maybe $450 after all the "drop" and crazy money gotta have it now people are done. Once you compare the Frog to something like this; high-beat mvmt, sapphire, titanium (the best Ti case), 16,000 A/m, ISO compliant, 200m for real resistance, brand heritage plus model heritage. All for only the cost of a couple of cheap Chinese watches, hard to beat IMO. I plan to spend the extra $ and put mine on a genuine EO MN.
