Hello dear members of HAQ part of WUS!

I am thinking of buying The Citizen watch based on A060 movement, at first I was looking in the direction of Titanium models but some SS models seem to me better deals but I have one doubt. Regarding Duratect coating and those micro scratches from regular daily usage. It says watch has Duratect Platinum so I am asking you how good is that coating defending the watch against those micro scratches and how high is that coating in the list of Citizen duratect coatings?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi
I've probably worn my Chronomaster about 25 times and it has no scratches visible to the naked eye. If I put a magnifying glass to it, there are some very small marks. I have never worn it on the bracelet, though. To compare, my Seamaster Aqua Terra and my Grand Seiko stainless steel watches had stuff that was visible without any aid after that many wearings. Also I am very tough on watches.

I checked it but I did not see clear answer on which scale of hardness is Duratect Platinum which Citizen uses in its THE Citizen range, especially because in this question is SS in question, not Titanium?

I had an issue with the duratect coating, I am very careful with all of my watches and I have no idea how this happened. I don't think it's platinum though. I have just pulled the trigger on the citizen AQ4100-14l, so hopefully won't have similar problems.

I would love to know how this happened the rest of the watch is fine.

Duratect is the name Citizen uses for their surface treatment. They use standard Duratect on most models, and Duratect Alpha on rare occasions.
Duratect with the ad of Gold or Platina is called... Yes, it´s just a name that tells you what is added to the case.
It does not matter if the Duratect is on a titanium or steel watch, the surface hardness is what it is. My guess would be that a titanium watch may take lighter hits than a steel watch, and may therefore look pristine for a longer time. Nothing is scratch free, if you have doubts you could always carry your watch like people do with their phones (in a case with extra glass cover). ;)
