DW-6900 Backlight not working even after battery swap

I bought an Undefeated G Shock DW6900 and swapped out the battery, but when I press the light button, there's no response from the watch.
Any solutions to fixing the backlight?

Did you do the AC reset?

It could have been a bad new battery that do not generate enough Voltage. Try a different fresh battery from a good brand such as Energizer, Panasonic, Maxell, Varta etc and see if that helps.

If after these tests the backlight still wont fly then most likely the EL panel or the EL panel transformer is defect and you need to get a new module replacement.

I think Energizer usually has a colorful retail blister ?

I purchased these....Genuine Maxell CR2016. I purchased them at a mall near my place.

I saw the same Maxells on a different hardware store and it has the "Where QUALITY meets INFINITY" slogan with a picture of an angry moon...Obviously a fake Maxell battery..Those fakes even cost more than the real ones...

While at it, I bought a 5-pack of SR927SWs for my G-306X and PRT-40 watches.

Try to use genuine batteries on our beloved Casio G-shocks and other watches.

Try taking out the module and pressing the light contact directly. If this does not work, then at least you've ruled out the casing being the culprit (a module seated askew can cause the light button to make contact and get stuck--without releasing the contact remains and the light will not go on).

It may be possible that you somehow dislodged the contacts spring for the EL. It's a SUPER TINY gold colored spring I believe usually on the left hand side. It sits on the EL panel and makes contact with the circuit board. I've only seen one G that has actually had the EL quit working...usually a missing contact spring is the culprit.

Yes, it is a separate spring, and no, it is not "exposed" when the case back is removed. Unless you actually remove the module from the case, it would be hard to dislodge the el contact spring. Really, the only way you'd lose one is if you actually took the module apart. Which, in this case, it seems plausible that the previous owner may have...

This is an example of how to EL contact springs look like....

So I assume that you have the same 2 contact springs on your DW-6900. If you can, disassemble the module and check it...But it voids any warranty you have on that watch...I opened mine because it's WAY out of warranty...LOL

Just saw this pic...you'd have to pull that circuit board out to see where the EL contact springs are. They sit between the EL panel and the board...from that pic, I would say they should be on the left hand side.
As what Tsip85 said, you have to separate the board from the display assembly. But BE EXREMELY CAREFUL in removing the circuit board as those springs can fall out or start springing upward..Once you get those two panels separated, try to wiggle the springs in their slots (to make sure they are in good contact with the EL panel underneath) then find the shiny gold contact on the circuit board that sticks to these springs. When you find those, clean them with a Q-tip slightly moistened with alcohol. (You can also clean the display contact strip on the circuit board while you're at it. Don't touch the thin, black, rubber contact strip on the display assembly.)

Once done reassemble module, insert battery then perform the AC reset. Then press the EL light contact on the module and see if the light works. If it works, place the module inside the case then press the G button and see if the light works. (Mind your alarm springs please. LOL)

Those are the only two needed. You can see the contact areas where the springs make contact with them. Everything looks good to me, but u might try cleaning the contact areas. Also, when u reassemble the module, make sure everything is "tight" so that those springs are actually touching the contacts. If all still doesn't work correctly, sounds like a bad EL panel. Something I've never come across before....just heard about and thought was a myth!

Also, I communicated with the guy through Facebook, and I think he blocked me. He told me his username was Si1versky. On FB, he says he is located in Castro Valley, but on Watchuseek, it says he is located in NY. He has known about the faulty module before selling it to me and sold me a faulty watch. Here is his watchuseek, https://www.watchuseek.com/member.php?u=152915, here is his FB, https://www.facebook.com/luis.l.tapia.3?fref=ts, and a link to the post where he has already known about the defect. https://www.watchuseek.com/f17/help-dw-6900-not-illuminating-properly-804576.html#post5875347 He claimed he bought the watch from a friend, but on his post, he states that he received it in the mail. I also have some more personal info about him but won't place it out because I'm a bit confused about his identity right now.

Dying batteries cause the display to blank out when you press the light button. But it starts dimming then it just simply kills it but the display will reappear once the afterglow ends. But this problem that you're facing right now is a dead EL panel itself.

On my opinion, if this watch still keeps the time properly and beeps the way it should be beeping, then I guess I could live without the EL backlight. Because returning it to the previous owner seems impossible at this point. (as you've said, he may have blocked future communications with you.)

I have the same problem. I have a good battery used from a functioning 6900. I have taken the module from the case and pressed the steel lume button tab on the front of the module and nothing happened. After a ac reset, nothing.
I think looking at the rest of this thread ill take the module apart to check the contacts.

Did you ever find the lume fault on yours?

Backlight doesn’t work, I’ve changed the battery, it did work one day and then stopped… the button works because I’m able to use it for other set ups that it means to be, but not for lighting it up…I did find the little golden spring, after I exchanged the battery, no idea where it should go back… I‘ve got this watch for 27 years, only replaced the battery and the bezel, other than that, it’s indestructible…I just don’t want to give up with this backlight issue…
Thank you
