So I have read that the main difference between the 1545 and 3229 modules is that the 1545 module calendar stops at 2039, but the 3229 module stops at 2099, but...

I just picked up a new 5600E tonight and the caseback is stamped 1545, but when I set the watch I noticed that the calendar goes all the way to 2099. So, what's up with that?

Holy crap I'm stupid. I was playing with it again and realized that I'm just completely wrong. HA HA HA I tested it again just to convince myself I wasn't crazy, and noticed that when I held the "advance" button down it went from 39-95 very quickly and I had just assumed that it was "2095" but nope, it's "1995"

So, all is well, I have a watch with a 1545 movement and the CORRECT caseback. LOL!!

Carry on, nothing to see here!

I'm not Buzzbait, but I do have some experiences with both modules. As far as robustness (by my interpretation, longevity and durability), I'd say both modules are equal in that regard; the designs are extremely similar and are cased the same way. The 1545 is the older of the two and has the benefit of standing the test of time, but I've no doubt that the 3229 will prove itself worthy as well in time. I've only seen blue EL in 1545 modules, but I've seen both green and blue on 3229 so far.

As far as disassembly, modding and rebuilding goes, I prefer the 1545 over the 3229. As Buzzbait pointed out, there's a tiny alarm spring in the battery tray that's prone to falling out and can be fiddly to keep in place during assembly. The 1545 is about as basic in assembly terms as it gets.

Sorry to bump an old thread another time, but if you're in doubt as to which module your particular G-Shock has, you could also pull the battery cover, then the gray gasket, and the module number if it's a 3229 module, will be stamped into the module at the lower right roughly 5 o'clock position. You'll need near perfect eyesight to see it though. Or reading glasses and a magnifying glass if your tired old eyes just can't see it anymore. I usually only need 1.50 reading glasses and on rare occasions at that, but I have a pair of 3.00 strength on hand for when I'm working with super small parts like those little springs. Even with my 3.00 strength on, I still needed a magnifying glass to see it clearly. I don't know about the 1545 module though, since I'm not fortunate enough to own one, but my 3229 is still going after a few years of service. I have a feeling that time will show that while it isn't OG, the 3229 will still be able hold its own many years down the road.
Long live the G-Square!!!
