Formula 1 WAZ1110.FT8023 second hand misalignment

My current Formula 1 WAZ1110.FT8023 has a misaligned second hand. It's fast about 1/4 second on average, although it varies a bit.

The current watch is a replacement for one that had scratches on the upper right lug due to being a display sample that was mishandled, but the latter also had very good second hand alignment (never off more than 1/10 second on either side of the marks).

I know some people couldn't care less about second hand misalignment, but it bothers me. As noted above, my previous watch of the same model was fine in this regard, and I also saw a review of the bracelet model on YouTube recently showing that the second hand hit all of the marks on that sample.

Has anyone had experience with Tag Heuer service regarding correcting second hand alignment? It theory it should be pretty simple: pull the second hand and reinstall it in the correct position, and avoid causing other problems (scratches, dust, etc).

Currently I only have one watch with an almost perfectly aligned second hand: my Citizen Blue Angels AT8020-03L.

The second hand on this Tag is more misaligned than on my other quartz watches. If Tag can't or won't align it better, I can just return it for a refund and move on to something else.

I've seen people on some other forums claim that they've never had a misaligned second hand on a quartz watch, which means they've been extremely lucky.

TAG Heuer attempts to explain the second hand variation in their FAQ section of their website. Look for the heading "The second hand isn't hitting the markers":

https://faq.tagheuer.com/articles/e...US/FAQ/What-is-a-quartz-movement/?l=en_US&c=Products:All_Watches&fs=Search&pn=1

My TAG Heuer Classic 2000 had this issue, but it was corrected when I had a quartz overhaul done about 3 years ago. I also had the dial, bezel, and hands replaced. When I got it back, the crown failed so back it went for a crown repair. There were other problems with the service, but I won't discuss these here.

My gut feeling is you can certainly try to have your issue addressed, but TAG Heuer CS may claim that the watch is running within normal specification so they may not do anything. If you can return the watch for a full refund, or exchange it for another one, then this may be a good option for you. Good luck.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that my Classic 2000 is running well, but the seconds hand doesn't consistently hit the markers. It's sometimes dead on, and sometimes slightly off. I'm not sure why, but this doesn't bother me.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Yes, I spotted that FAQ entry that says not to worry if the second hand doesn't hit the markers. To me, there are varying degrees of not hitting the markers. If it misses a little short or a little past some of the time, this is different from consistently hitting between the markers.

I don't think my AD is going to exchange it again, even though I had asked them to pick a replacement with proper hand alignment (hour hand and second hand) and they didn't.

I don't think it's possible for the second hand to hit all of the markers all the time with this movement, but on my current sample it hits past the markers all the time, to varying degrees. The previous sample hit +/- 1/10 second, which was certainly acceptable.

It's too bad that the second hand on your F1 is bothering you - I agree that you should be 100% happy with your watch. It's a great looking watch and, being an F1, I like the quartz version as it is in keeping with the F1 heritage (all F1s were quartz only until 2015). In fact, I have the quartz chronograph version of your watch myself. Good luck and please let us know how it works out...

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Rather than try to get another sample from my AD or send a new watch in for a warranty repair, I exchanged it for a Hamilton Khaki Pilot Day Date Auto H64615735. Since this one is mechanical rather than quartz, the second hand alignment is not an issue.

Hi guys,
Quick question about the second hand on the waz1110.ft8023 I was wearing this watch under the sun and I noticed that the second hand seems to have only the front side plated (in silver or rhodium) while (a side from the tip in red) also the backside seems to be red. Have you noticed this in your model too?
