G-Shock 5610-U strap was awful for me, but Jays and Kays adapters are excellent!

A bit late to the game, but I recently picked up a 5620-U and I love it, but 15 minutes into wearing it, I noticed that my thumb was starting to get a bit numb. Since the only thing that changed was that I put on the watch, I took a closer look and realize that the folds at the top of the strap dig into my wrist at just the right point to pinch a nerve and so off came the watch on went the hunt for a solution.

I've only got a seven inch wrist, but apparently it's shaped in just the wrong way for this watch (it curves wonderfully around my wife's wrist, though). I really don't see why they wouldn't make the underside of the watch strap flat and they could still leave the bumps on the outside to keep the classic appearance. At least that would help make the watch more wearable on the original strap. I do like how it looks, but it doesn't work for me at all.

Anyhow, I picked up a cheap silicone strap on Amazon which I cut to fit the 16mm lugs and that worked for a while, but I was hoping for something a little better looking. Then I came across the strap adapters after reading up here and on some other websites. I ended up getting the JaysAndKays 16 to 22 mm adapters from eBay, pairing them with a Barton silicone strap and couldn't be happier with the fit and comfort.

As I never really found a lot of information about how these fit and their specifications (which was a concern before purchase), I thought I would provide a little bit of information here myself. Originally, I was worried that there wouldn't be enough space between the adapters for my wrist, but the sizing turned out pretty perfectly in my case. They end up being roughly 55 mm tip to tip (50mm inside the widest opening) and so if your wrist is much wider than that on top, they could dig in, but for me, the watch case back actually touches my wrist before the adapter lugs and so there is no pressure at all.

I chose the JaysAndKays due to other good reviews here and elsewhere, though there are many other brands that might also work. Barton adapters had gotten enough reviews where people complained about them being difficult to insert, that I decided against going with those. The J&K were very easy to install with little fuss and used the same size spring bars as the original G shock. I used the original spring bars on account of the pins being a little bit longer and so probably a bit more secure, though the ones that came with the adapters were also of good quality. There is little discernible gap between the adapters and the watch case and so that is not an issue with these adapters, though I have seen it as a complaint with other brands.

Hope this helps others that may also be just discovering this fantastic watch and it's frustratingly disappointing strap!

Cheers for finding a good solution for your wrist.

I've got a 6.5" wrist and every 5000, 5600, and 5610 strap fit comfortably for extended wearing. So, I think it's perhaps a bit sensationalist to claim the 5610 strap is awful in general. It certainly doesn't seem to be the case. Seems like it was awful for you, though.

I've thought about trying adapteos for the GW-6900. The strap on that watch can get uncomfortable for me. But then I switched to a 5000 strap and it's more comfy than ever. So far, no need for JK or Bartons...although I do have a couple of cheap adaptors from AliEx coming in to play with.

Good point. Corrected! However, it could certainly be made more universally wearable by just making it flat on the inside, as I'd suggested earlier.

Any chance you could provide a link to the exact adapters you bought?
Thanks,
