Help needed: How to clean/loosen a stiff bezel

I was grilling some meat and wanted to use the bezel on my 2nd Gen Monster and noticed it was really stiff. Granted, it doesn’t get much use these days and it’s most likely some old grime that has built up. Any suggestions to fix it/clean it? Submerge it in soapy water and use floss to clean?

Dental floss or tape (tape is flatter), run a little silicon grease along it and pull it through under a section of the bezel at a time. This will clean out crud and get some lube in there. You'll be amazed/appalled at the color of the tape the first few pulls. Pull in a counterclockwise direction, otherwise the tape might get snagged in the bezel ratchet mechanism.

Simplest way is to immerse it in a bowl/pot of water (not boiling) and operate the bezel several times. That generally loosens up debris that has collected & is how i clean my dive watches after being in the ocean, river, lake etc.

on a few old and very inexpensive watches, i was lazy and sprayed silicone, but that probably wasn’t wise. It does work, but it probably eventually gets more stuff stuck in there.

any half-decent watch repair place could pop the bezel off & clean and lubricate it and the spring, shouldn’t cost much.
