Henry Archer Akva Review: Even better than the Nordsø? This Danish brand is doing so much right

A bitter cold day, but a warm, sunny watch. This is the third Henry Archer model I've checked out and they just keep getting better. The fit and finish on a sub-$500 watch is nothing short of incredible in nearly all areas and their use of color is second to none. Give the video below a tap and let's unpack this one together 🥂

I was curious for a really long time before finally checking them out about a year ago. The use of color and what appeared to be excellent finishing always caught my eye. Once I got them in hand, I was extremely impressed for the price. As good as they look in pics/videos, they're better in person and keep getting better with time. The updates to the Nordsø really elevated it (aesthetically and functionally) but I like this Akva even more. It's incredibly well balanced, literally and figuratively/visually. I don't think you'd regret giving them a shot. I'll be reviewing the upcoming Vesterhav soon too.

The blue hand against the green dial doesn't work for me.
I tried to think of another colour that would work, but couldn't!
I do like the white dial variant shown in the video.
Are they doing the Zelos at a better price/finish?
If so, then this would be an intriguing watch.

Fair enough, I can understand it being polarizing. I obviously love the combo, as this is my home gym 😄 Zelos offers a heck of a lot for the money, but these Henry Archer watches definitely hold their own in my opinion. I'd give the finishing edge to Henry Archer in most cases, dollar for dollar (taking nothing away from Zelos though, as they beat nearly all others in value).

That's a super nice home gym.

I have a garage gym in my garage.

The most interesting piece of gym equipment I have is a vintage 172 lb. Thomas Inch old time strongman dumbbell.

SWEET! I was big into grip training a while back and those Inch Circus Bells are some of the coolest grip/strongman nostalgia on the market! I came really close to building a Globe set but went with the easier to source and use Vintage Roundheads (before downsizing to just Powerblocks and IronMaster to 120lbs).

I still have the "Blobs" for grip training.

My only gripe with the Henry Archer watches is that too many have the popsicle stick hands. Those are the Comic Sans of watch hands. The rest of the designs for so many of their watches is pretty awesome, from dial color and material to case shape. Kudos to the designers ... except for their constant reliance on the popsicle stick hands. It's like they got them on bulk discount somewhere and have to get rid of them somehow.

I hear you and can relate with another brand. I feel the same way with Signum. I love their dials and the owner is a great community member, but I'm not crazy about the handset and it's been identical on nearly every model 🫤 The pill/popsicle thankfully doesn't both me, though it's not always my favorite either. I'm sure they'll branch out with successive designs, as they have varied the style (full Lume, skele, etc.).

I had one. They offer good value for the money, but as mentioned here, it seems to be a love it or hate it brand to some.

I enjoyed mine, so no complaints on my end.

Very nice home gym. Does it include a hip sled or hack squat machine?

It makes sense, especially with the more bold color options.

Thanks! I used to have Magnum Perfect Squat (modified hack), Magnum Linear Bearing Horizontal Selectorized Leg Press, and Cybex Leg Press (the IMO nicer cam style 45). I sold all three before the move though. I have a Safety Squat Bar, Rogue CB4 and other specialty bars along with rack handles, a Sorinex Squat Box, etc. to cover decent variety. I rarely use my Smith Machine but have it too.

He has some videos on grip strength that are insane. He has blobs as well and has picked up one 150lbs blob with one hand.

He has also picked up a 230 lbs circus dumbbell with one hand which is just mind blowing.......

Grip strenght is VERY important when it comes to weight training IMHO. Been doing this for years and years.
