How do you store/organize your G-Shocks? Help me decide on a box!

Hey folks, I'm at the point where I'm starting to think about the best way to store these. I currently have a 2 of the clamshell boxes which I like to keep 'pairs' in. I might just try and find a 3rd matching size box and be content, but part of me want to put them all in a single case.

If I were to go the single-case method, here are my preferences:

Easy open, no zippers or giant clasps (thought about that huge Invicta box, but it's not practical for what I'm after). Undecided on if a quick-release buckle or simply a free-closing lid is ideal for me.

6-8 slots, with removable pillow/cushions. This creates an issue because most of the pillows seem designed for a bracelet or strap that conforms to a more oval shape, where as the G-Shocks resin band stays more circular (maybe a non-issue, but a thought none-the-less).

Glass top - I haven't decided... pros/cons? Thoughts?

here were some considerations:

($70 is probably my upper-limit)

(felt probably attracts tons of dust)

Not sure G-shocks even fit well in any of these
Am I barking up the wrong tree? Recommendations please :)

Here is my new set up for displaying the Gs regularly worn daily. It's a acrylic display case with front door and lock removed. Then purchased some Casio boxes with watch stands for the clear stands - from ebay. This is my favorite setup. The watches can charge and can be looked at. The Watchtowers that were being used before were nice, but seeing watches on their sides wasn't my favorite way to display them.

Standard watch boxes with clear tops are nice, but harder to look at watches and admire. My other Gs live in those type of boxes.

Here's the case link on amazon if anyone is interested - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KRE04W8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

Hi Chempop

Here we mostly use those slots with pillow type boxes you mentioned....

But we use 10 or even 25 slot boxes here also they are China made & very inexpensive
For example basic colors of a 10 slot with EMS delivered runs $15 & can be bought in many shops here

They are not as well made as the ones you show (hardware is basic as is covering) but they are fine for the task.

Unless your certain your not buying anymore watches always buy a bit bigger than the amount of watches you have hahah
When I bought my 1st I bought a 6 slot & lady kept saying you sure you dont want the 10?
I looked at her like she was crazy...10 watches hahaha....now I have 2 10 slot boxes full & have more outside of box
Also no problem with the straps working on these pillow types. I do not buckle them but just thread the strap thru the strap keeper loop

I like that RTB you've got. I have one myself.

BTW I use 2 small parts carry boxes from Home Depot. Hmm, I thought I had pictures but I erased them.

Here is the updated version of mine. The only difference is the side locking clips on the sides of the case. Mine has a single lock on the center of the cover in addition to the regular tabs up by the handle. I lined mine with vent filters cut to fit so I could lay my watches (not all are Casio G's) face down.

**EDIT** Ha, I found a picture of one of my cases from a while back

I picked up a three row stand off the bay.
It's a dodgy velour finish and is starting to look pretty ratty.
Pelican cases have always looked good to me.

Here's my stand anyway
The boxes behind it are wine bottle gift boxes that hold my dive watches.
They hold four watches each on little home made pillows that the wife stitched together

I would say the type of pillows are important and is not a "non-issue"...... it is a very important issue if you want to fit G-Shocks into it.

I bought one of those 20 slots ones (with the top having a clear "window") and the so called "pillows" are not exactly pillows.

It was more like oval shaped pieces of wood covered in felt (to give it a "soft" feel).

And all my G-Shocks hated it o| .

Just could not wrap the strap around the "pillow" as the "pillow" was not flexible enough to reshape. The G-Shock straps can only bend to a certain limit and is not flexible at the lugs enough for it to go around the pillow comfortably.

So I ended up putting all the dress watches in there.

Any G-Shocks that needed to go into the box had to use a custom made "foam pillow" which I had to make myself. :-(

Thanks for the helpful replies everyone. I haven't decided, but I've narrowed down some of the considerations.

I don't want a glass top - it's just another thing to potentially break, and (for me) the case is to keep them safe, not to really display them.
As StudipNinja pointed out, some of these 'pillows' are indeed not squeezable, so i'll be sure to get one with real foam pillows.

Still undecided about getting a case with more slots than the number of squares that I currently own.
I can see myself getting 1 vintage, and than the elusive DW-5000ml or 5700ml and calling it a day :-!

theyre Gs, stop trying to make them into shelf queens. this is all you need

Image

fill up one set? buy another set and stack it on top. done :-!

no messing about with pillows and what not. also with 3 drawers you can organise them by wear frequency or wear type or colour or whatever. the time and money you save can go straight into whats really more important - filling the drawers ;)

Here's my box. :-d Of course, Gs are not the only thing I store in there.

I do like the clear glass or plastic towers I've seen for Gs, and I like the idea of storing them so that the solar models can get light. But, I'm a little paranoid and would rather be safe than sorry (no pun intended!), so into the dark they go! No matter. I have found that once they are on a High charge, they will retain that for a very long time in the dark while in power save mode. But of course I do rotate them out regularly to get a sun bath. ;-)

Well, at first, I advise to you to pass full medical check. :)

Because usually it's all starts with something small

later on it will progress

than it will develop to the acute phase

And in the end, you might find yourself in a tough choice between divorce and renting another apartment to store all your Gs :)

You have been warned! ;)

What's wrong in keeping all in their original boxes?
I think both the clamshell JDM or the international tin can are good.
Plus, you can just stack them all, adjusting to whatever space left in the cabinet.

If you go with the fancy display/storage case then you will waste the space to keep the original boxes, unless you will throw them away.
Also, with the price of a good case you can get a basic G.
I personally love to keep the original box, case and the tags. Just a bit of novelty.

Just started this little project. Shadow box i used a 40percent coupon on at hobby lobby got for 10 bucks, was gonna be a hidden gun holder for my room. The foam is ugly but just a trial run. The other side has the cutout for my p226 lol so this side was jacked up already. I like it, prolly get some other foam or maybe screw some dowels in there to hang them from, we'll see. The 2 on the right are just some cheapies in there until i get some more Gs lol

I use a Pelican case for holding watches (IIRC the 1150 size case) - vastly over built for the purpose, yet fitting for a G Shock...

I got one with the foam included so that I could set it out as I wished then cut the foam to suit, and then use a length of appropriate diameter foam pipe insulation cut to the correct widths as pillows to support the watches. I will admit it may no be the most professional option out there, but it does exactly what I need (and being set out by me, could include stuff like a slot sized to hold spare straps and other bits and pieces).
