Hi, I'm looking at buying a used Breitling Avenger Skyland without box or papers. It is in great shape and seems authentic. I am wondering about how much I should pay? Thanks.

Try taking a look at our "Fake Busters" subforum above this forum. Utilize our WUS "search" function for the type watch you are considering and do a little research and studying. Last, check Ebay for "completed auctions" to give you an idea of what the market is like these days for pre-owned pieces. All of us have had to do a little legwork ourselves to ascertain fair values. None of us can tell you how much you should pay without doing that very same research for you. Good luck with your quest and welcome aboard! :)
Best,
Ron

The advice (given already) about fakes is useful and important, but in addition, it is likely that a Breitling without box and papers (assuming it is genuine, and there are plenty of genuine ones out there without the full kit) will command a discounted price.

To give you an idea. A friend of mine just sold his Seawolf without box and papers for about GBP 900.- which is probably about GBP 100-150 off what it might have commanded with the box and papers. Certainly for anything collectible the prices goes up exponentially for original papers, tags, etc.

There is an immaculate 2009 Avenger Skyland on bracelet ( on TZ sales corner) for $2380 USD shipped right now. A watch as new as a Skyland should absolutely have all box/papers. The one on TZ does. Use your own best common sense.

I definitely hear what the members are saying, and I certainly found those watches in the 2-2.5k range, which is why I feel 1800 without box and papers would be fair. I understand why everyone is sceptical, but that being said, has anyone watched the video of the watch? I would like some more conclusive proof other than the lume might be too big and it seems too good to be true.

yes.. I watched the very blurry video and it doesnt mean anything except that he's showing a fake watch .. one thing that stood out during the video is that the crystal doesnt have the anti glare / anti reflection coating, normally visible as a blueish sheen on the crystal .. but I assume the original owner mislaid that coating with the box and papers ?

but ask him to send the watch to BUSA for a service , that should clear up the confusion

I appreciate the input and I'm trying to drink the water. Obviously I'm excited about the possibility of my first breitling, but I don't want to be blinded by it. I know everyone is worried about the back being off, but since it was, is it not telling that it had breitling hardware in it? Also I thought the movement was hard to replicate, I thought the movement looked pretty spot on in the vid. Thanks again for the help.

I actually could care less about the back being off, or taken off in a less than class 1000 cleanroom , but what it does show however is a nice engraved sticker/label on the rotor instead of an engraved rotor

and copies of the 7750 movements are now made in china and used in these watches , you can buy a 7750 movement (movement only) for about $5 - $10 ea. they just dont last long

You're not being irritating, it's just that some very knowledgable members are quite skeptical and giving advice that is sound. You gotta ask yourself is it worth the extra bucks to get a genuine WITH papers, or save a few and MAYBE get a nice expensive paperweight? How would you feel if you spent 1800 dollars on a fake? Do you think for even a second the seller would refund your money? I seriously doubt it. But as SnapIT said...

I know a lot of you have been following both of my posts. Thanks for helping inform me along the way. I ended up buying the watch today, took it to my local AD and they said it is an older Skyland but that it checks out as real. Is it possible they were mistaken? I am happy to take more pics now that it is in my hands if anyone is interested, just tell me what you want to see. I will send it to Breitling soon just to be absolutely sure. Thanks again for all the input.

You're a braver man than I!:-d There are some ADs out there that have been fooled, so take good close up pics of the dial and back, maybe a couple from the side. Post them here for the experts to check. I hope for your sake it is real. Congrats on a good score if it it!

Thanks for everyone's help, this has been an interesting learning experience. I try to buy just about everything used for various reasons, but this has been a much more complicated situation and may become an expensive lesson learned. I have had a similar thread on the fake busters forum and am going to wrap things up over there, hopefully with a constructive ending. Again, thanks for all the help/thought/input.

Do the chrono pushers work while screwed down? The fake ones don't screw in or out. You should not be able to operate a real one with the pushers screwed in.

Avenger skyland doesn't work like this...In any case the guy disregarded all the experts here and bought a fake watch. What's more disheartening is he could have spent very little more and purchased mine that's guaranteed genuine with all papers, boxes etc and still has warranty.. I just dont get folks like this o|

BTW...a 100% genuine skyland from a reputable seller on our favorite breitling site sold for $2000 a month ago. So much for $1800 being a good deal.
Right, im selling mine right now for around the same price and anyone that has dealt with me on here or TZ knows i take reasonable offers...makes no sense $1800 for no box or papers and quite frankly its a fake...I wouldnt pay more than $1500 for no box or papers and used and thats after BUSA validating its real. I think the whole thing is a windup to come on here ask for advice and then not take it is just someone trying to get a cheap thrill, either that or a complete idiot that has 2K to throw away.

Imho that watch is a fake. I'm posting that after he says it's been checked out.
