As someone who is looking to buy his first automatic watch, What does everyone think a fair price for the watch in the link below is?

Omega Seamaster de Ville Automatic Date Black Dial Stainless Steel 1963 Watch | eBay

Additionally, I noticed that the serial number on the back of the case has "61" at the end, which I believe dates it to 1961. However, the reference number on the movement dates it to around 1963. Is this a frakenwatch?

Any feedback would be greatly welcomed! Thanks all!

Thanks for the feedback, gents. I guess it's a little optimistic to think that a 50 year old watch can look that new. I'm going to pass on the watch based on your comments. That being said, if the look of this is what I'm looking for aesthetically, do you have any recommendations as to any other type of watch that is similar? I'd say my price target is $2,500 or under. I'm a big fan of the leather strap as opposed to a steel band. Thanks again!

Not optimistic at all with some patience. Bought this for under $400usd. Pristine condition 14k circa 1962. $2500 gets you into some top of the line vintage omegas. Black dial vintages of any maker are nearly always refinished because the black paint used degrades more over time. A nice white dial ss deville of the same era should be around $1000 for a pristine piece.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I won't comment on what one should or shouldn't pay, but I will point out that I find ebay to be a good barometer of market value. Seller hasn't listed at this price (he actually listed it at $0.99); potential buyers have indicated a willingness to pay this much. I have purchased two vintage Omega from this seller. I took both to a local watchmaker who confirmed that they had been very recently cleaned and oiled, so I do believe he actually does this rather than just claim to have done it in his listings (he uses a local watchmaker, with whom he put me in touch for a question I once had). He's fairly selective in what he offers. Of the multiple sellers on ebay, I would recommend him as one to follow for future listings. Good luck with your hunt. Be prepared to see one you'd REALLY like within ten days of finally buying your first one, though. It's the vintage curse.
