Hi all. I was just wanted to do a simple poll and see how often we all wind our Speedmasters?

I do mine probably twice a day. There's something quite soothing about doing it;)

Once day in the morning after I get up, even if I won't be wearing it. Nice little daily bonding session, and one of the benefits of a handwind.

I remember reading, somewhere, that the fuller the wind on a watch, the better it performs. Therefore, I do it once in the morning and, again, late in the evening. Regardless of the logic of my thought process, or lack thereof, I enjoy winding it.

Just so you know, the torque curve of the mainspring should be pretty flat for the first 24 hours, so there's really no need to wind it more than once per day.

If you enjoy it, that's fine, but unless there's a problem with the watch, it won't likely improve accuracy.

Cheers, Al

Every day since I got it on Jan 1st, 2012. Since I've bought it, I've worn it at least every other day, if not for a week at a time. It's just not had a chance to run down without my wanting to put it on first.

Re: How often d you wind your Speedmaster?

I used to wind it in the morning at the train station and again the next evening just before getting off the train home from work. Although, tbh, I would maybe wind it again at various times throughout the day because winding a watch is just so damn cool. It's a very "old-school-guy" thing to do. Like having a couple of martinis before driving to the theatre.

Yep, it takes an astronaut to wear a Speedmaster. I should copyright that line. Ahh, well...

I had to add something...

Re: How often d you wind your Speedmaster?

When I purchased mine, the AD told me to wind it every day for best accuracy. I haven't checked accuracy in a while but it does seem to make a difference. I also find the best accuracy seems to come by having it rest on its side with crown down.

Wind mine every day soon as I wake up, even if I am not wearing it. In the six years I have owned it I have never let it run all the way down.

Re: How often d you wind your Speedmaster?

I wind my Speedmaster every morning and every night before I go to bed. I too lay mine on the side, not realizing the possible benefits from doing so. I was placing it in the watch box, but I developed the habit of laying on top. I do have a question, can you wind it too often throughout the day? I catch myself giving it a quick wind sometimes during the afternoon. Is this a mistake? Is it better to let it wind down some?

I also use a cloth and polish it up every day! I guess I am a little anal about it, but it sure looks good.

What does laying the watch on its side do?

Nothing anal about that. I polish mine often to. My Polywatch arrived today and can't wait to polish the hesalite (bought my Speedy off my brother and it's 2 years old and he never once polished it or the hesalite)

Whilst wearing, I do try to wind approximately the same time every day, usually in the morning. I've read that this helps to work out the deviation. That makes sense, imagine if you were haphazardly winding and trying to work out the deviation out over a week or so. That reminds me, my 3570.50 has been sitting in my watch box for over a month now. I bet the reserve is low. I had better check. Yep it's stopped.
That brings up the age old post.. What's best? Let sleeping dogs lie? Think I'll click search. :-d

I would wind it up daily even if I wasn't wearing it. These watches are made to tell time and be used daily.

Mine became more accurate when I switched from twice daily to just once, so now I wind it every day before bed.

That's interesting. You could look at it and say Omega made them to be wound once a day and any more than that could upset the movement? Anyone any thoughts on leaving the watch on it's side when it's off your wrist?

I wind mine in the morning when I am wearing the speedy. I look forward to it to be honest, manual wind watches are such a blast.

Jimi, lots of watches will gain or lose depending on the resting position, it is called self regulation. Rolex watches actually tell you in the booklets to try crown up or down depending on if it is fast or slow.

The old saying goes, "crown up, speed it up, crown down, slow it down". Different watches have different little personalities so it will vary. I always try different positions to try to self regulate and figure out how my little mechanical friend likes to sleep. I try dial up, dial down, crown up, crown down. You can even try crown left, crown right, they all make a difference just like in a COSC test.

It all depends if you want to spped up your watch or slow it down.

Always a good thing:)

Its a bit of a ritual for me ... first I dance thrice anticlockwise around the fire worshipping the great horned god, then I usually forget to wind it at all. Its a wonder I can keep track of the time at all

Re: How often d you wind your Speedmaster?

Just found this in Omega's user manual:
Note:
do not wind the watch more often than is necessary. Fora watch that is worn all the time, a single winding each day will
ensure that it functions correctly.

I started with once every 2 days when I got my Speedy over 7 months ago. Then I forgot on a couple of occasions and was so irked with myself that I started winding it daily, every morning. This has now become habit and I'm glad I got into it. :
