Incoming today, but did Casio get it slightly wrong with the new GW-5000HS-1 and 7?

I always felt that my old GW-5000 was let down by its display. Just not sharp enough to match the quality. Gave the U a miss because I ended up with a GMW-B5000 TVA. Ultimately it (and a lot of other watches) were moved on and then life got in way.

So my first post in a couple of years is about today's two arrivals from Casio UK. Full disclosure, I'd had a few beers when I read the email from G-Shock to say these were now available in the UK. Of course I had to have a look and this happened.

Couldn't decide between the 1 or the 7. And something wasn't quite working. Mostly because I'd have preferred the black with a positive display and the white with the negative display.

Then it came to me. Buy one of each and "fix" the "mistake"

(My beer fuelled plan didn't seem quite so clever when my judgement wasn't so influenced and I realised what I'd spent, but, hey, I've done worse!)

Thoughts:

This is how they should have come from Casio display wise.

Screw backs just feel solid. The new bio bands aren't quite as soft as the GW 5000 and 5000u but they are a good bit softer than the standard resin.

Personally I prefer the brick pattern with the black outline to that on the 5000 and 5000u. Doesn't look fussy on the wrist and the display is significantly better (sharper, better contrast) than my 5000 was.

The negative is great with some exterior light but no better than most negative displays. But to me it now looks great and it will make for a brilliant summer watch in the sunshine

Overall, I'm very pleased with them both.

PS. Pic is real, taken today - I've just blurred out the background and my makeshift stand to show them together in the same light.

They're 5 seconds apart (even if they haven't synchronized via MB6 yet, that seems a little excessive).

Ah. That was my fault.

They were set to UTC out the box and when I pushed a radio sync it didn’t work here as a result so I quickly set them manually (before remembering all I had to do was change the time zone)

Once I set the time zone they sinc’d straight away on demand and are both still in perfect sync nearly 24 hours later (y)

Congrats on the watches and I agree, they look better with the modules swapped.

A question though, what is the band/bezel like on the white one? What I mean by that is it just 'regular' resin but white or is it like the GLX-5600-7 where the GLX is glossy and 'sealed' so that would suggest it'll be harder wearing before getting stained or discoloured.

Cheers!

Cheers. The white resin is the standard finish but softer than the standard resin, not glossy. Its a bio resin (both are) so will be interesting to see how that holds up too.

Am thinking of getting my first 5000. The all steel case is a particular drawer as I like to change straps regularly and the plastic lugs can wear very quickly.
But I want positive, and dislike the all white look. And I like bright colours in the summer.
So... do these take the common DW5600 bezels? From reading the compatibility chart that is floating around on the forum I think they do but just wanted to check if anyone has done it before I make an expensive mistake.
