I came across the Escapement Time Flieger on AliExpress looking for something else. I saw Honest Watch Review's glowing review on the watch, and am this close to picking it up.

Island Watch's Aviators seem to be perpetually out of stock.

Are there any other options out there I'm not seeing?

Escapement Time is indeed one of the best fliegers on Ali right now.

For alternatives, there is the same exact watch but powered by a Sea-gull 28,800 bph ST-2130 sold by Merkur.

I picked up a San Martin 39mm 200m Pilot and I've got to say. For the $150 it's a damn good price.
Mine came with an NH38 in it so there's not date wheel under he dial and no middle position on the crown, and even though I was sceptical about the WR rating, after I opened it, the crown is screw down and well "o" ringed and the case back has 2 seals, one directly to the case and one to the metal movement spacer. It claims to have a sapphire crystal too but as this stage I wouldn't care if it was acrylic. For a cheap Chinese shameless IWC stab it offers a lot for the money.

I suggest you review Flieger Friday's affordable section for other options. That's not to say there's anything wrong with the Escapement Time watch as near as I can tell it looks to be a pretty good one. I own a few pilot watches including a couple of fliegers I built myself. While I have both manual wind and auto fliegers, I much prefer manual wind fliegers.

A few fliegers I would seriously consider if I was in the market to get another is one made by Dekla, Stowa or G. Gerlach.

I have this Orient :-
Orient Flight Mens 42mm Japan Movement Blue Dial Watch FUNG2001D0
The metal strap is not great, but I stuck mine on a Blue Rally Strap to match the dial and ended up with a great combo IMHO
Best regards,
Jim
Note that's the quartz version (and is super affordable) but is not as literal of a B-Uhr B-type dial. The Automatic versions put their own spin on it, but they look a little more like a Flieger while putting their own spin. I liked it so much I bought the 1st gen. Those are no longer made but IMHO they had the better dial while the 2nd gen has the better movement. I think the quartz is still out there, as its own thing distinct from the automatic versions.

I think the Escapement Time is probably the best budget one, for ~$100. Great specs. Some Steeldives and San Martin's are also good value, though have a different style.

If you're not on a very tight budget, and are considering the $200+ range, I would say just get the Laco original

Yes you pay a bit of a premium for not tremendously better specs. But you're getting a watch that has good QC, great customer support, legit warranty, well-made, a nice box, and most importantly: a true Made in Germany flieger by the company that made the originals in WW2. I normally don't really care about heritage, but having a true flieger is pretty awesome imo.

great perspective @john_marston. I'm aligned with your view of the flieger playing field. Personally, I have been considering adding a mechanical flieger to the collection for some time and part of my reluctance to pull the trigger is because of the difficulty to decide which makes the most sense for me : Laco or Stowa. Both are high quality, German-Made watches that have heritage as true fliegers dating back to WW2, as you say...and both are sub $1000 which make them inexpensive for me. And therefore @interloper07 the real question is how are you defining 'inexpensive?' Sub us$100??

that entrapment watch ... i mean escapement watch looks to be a good buy. but w/ china trying to encroach into my country's sovereignty, i'm not in the mood to put some more money in their war chest.

c'est la vie.
Hard to keep from doing that when even Switzerland has a huge supply chain to China going both directions.

This isn't my listing. I'm not connected to it any way other than I might buy it if it goes unsold for much longer...

But $120 for stainless steel, sapphire, Swiss C1 lume, 100m WR and......... a Miyota 9015! I'm not sure you will find a better value proposition.

The Ticinos are perfectly decent for the right buyer (not sure they are still made though). The 44mm all-dial design didn't work for me and I'm guessing wouldn't work on a wrist that's not significantly above average size. Additionally it had a phantom date the smaller Tisell avoided by using the 90s5 variant for the no date models. I also felt the 20mm lugs were too narrow for that giant dial and 44mm case of the Ticnino, whereas 20mm works fine with the 40mm case of the Tisell.

After acquiring a pair of 40mm Tisells, I sold my Ticino to a large-wristed friend.

I think I was looking at something in the range of $200 or less. Stowas seem to be way out of my range at €620 and up. The Laco Aachen is a bit more reasonable at around $400, and given the discussion here, I might wait and save a bit more for one.

However that Orient listed above looks like an intriguingly good value.

I’m no where closer to making a decision, but this is great discussion!

If you decide to go with a LACO, I suggest keeping an eye on timebyme.com. They carry LACO and they often run site-wide sales. Right now, they have a 15 percent off sale, but I have also seen it at 20 and (occasionally) 25 percent. I picked up an Augsburg for $328 with a 20 percent code earlier this year. They are out of France, but shipping is fast and free. And no sales tax, assuming you are in the USA.

Long island watch came out w/ another bunch of iteration of the flieger and they're pretty stuff

to be or not to be, that always confuses me.
Nice, haven't seen those! Not bad at all for $200. It looks very similar in specs and quality to the Escapement Time, which is $100. Granted, nobody can beat straight-from-China brands, and the Islander will have great QC and some extras. The blue one looks nice
