Is the hourly chime really going to drain the battery that much?

In reference to non-solar models (in particular the CR2025), does having the hourly chirp on going to significantly shorten the battery life of a G-Shock? Or is it the backlight that is the real threat to battery life?

I don't think that two short beeps every hour have a significant effect to drain the battery. EL-backlight certainly draws quite a bit more power, but I wouldn't worry about that either. A CR2025 will often last for a decade or more. but even if EL is heavily used and the battery runs empty in - let's say five years - who cares? to change a battery is not a big deal and doesn't take longer than 10 minutes max, including checking and lubing the gasket.

cheers

The CR2025 is a huge battery compared to other watch batteries, you shouldn't have problem for a long time.

If your watch has a battery gauge, you'll know when to change it.

Hi guys,
Just a note on battery life.
My Dw 5600 G shock bought in 1989 is still going strong with hourly beeps and night light still working.
It still has it's original battery and has never been changed. I have just this week bought a new strap for it so I can wear it again.
I have never heard of a watch battery lasting this long, has anyone else?
