Is this (Tag) Heuer 2000 quartz chronograph a unique specimen... or simply a frankenwatch?

Hello everyone, I just won an auction of this (Tag) "Heuer" 2000 Quartz Chronograph as pictured below

Only after I won, I just realized something unusual about it: There is no image with this exact configuration on Google search

It seems like the case and bracelet themselves came from ref 264.006-1

Judging from its:
  • bezel
  • shape, and
  • two-tone silver-gold combination

But the dial seems like came from ref 253.006-1

Judging from its:
  • stick hour markers
  • an arabic "12" hour marker
  • dot-line-dot-line minute markers, also
  • cream (patina?) dial and gold subdials color
  • bonus: The back case itself says ref "253.006-1"

Another context: The movement inside is calibre ETA 955.232

So, is this truly a frankenwatch? The seller acknowledged the mismatched back case... but not the mismatched dial

Maybe that was the reason I could win this auction for about US$163? Do you think the "Heuer"-only branding helps justify its price?

Anyway, the main time and chronograph complication are working just fine

It definitely looks like it's TRYING to be a TAG-Heuer 2000 chronograph but it's got little things, some of which you pointed out, that are not right. It's one of several things - a Franken, a poorly restored, a poorly modded, a poorly serviced watch. Or a fake.

I personally would have passed on it. When you get it, provide images of the case back and even the movement if you can open it up.

At the very least, I hope it is not the later. I originally thought this was just a normal Tag Heuer 2000 chronograph with swapped out case back, when it was serviced by its previous owner

Here are more photos of it. All I know so far (as a layman) is that this movement, 599.232 is a legit one used in (Tag) Heuer 2000 quartz chronographs ref 25x, 26x, and 27x

It has been "tweaked" at some point.....
Now I believe it so. Maybe the original dial was broken or something and the 253.006 dial (and case back) was the only thing they had in their drawer.

I think the price of $163 speaks for itself. I personally wouldn’t expect much for a watch of this price.
Undestandable, I've been observing that a normal used 2000 quartz chronograph fetch at least $500 and up

Don't these quartz movements usually have TAG Heuer engraved on it? My 2000 and 6000s all do. They are ETA movements for the most part but TAG marks them with their name like this 2000:

I don't see that on the OP's movement picture. It's blank.
