Good afternoon,

I would like to find out more about a watch I have recently been given. The only writing on the watch is "Leuba Louis Geneve", "Swiss Made" and a serial number on the back.

I am unable to find anything out about the company online.

Thank you!

Here are the Mikrolisk results for Leuba, including your Leuba Louis Geneve:
Mikrolisk - The horological trade mark index
Trademark was registered in 1965, to Louis A. Leuba. I think that your watch is somewhere from between late 1960s and mid-1970s, but that's just based on the design, nothing else.
If you post a picture of the movement, we'd be able to tell you more.

If you intend to collect vintage watches, get a case knife- it's blunt, so not that much of a risk to scratch a watch. Also, a watch holder will be useful. It's a rather basic equipment, but really useful. Ask a watchmaker to open it for you if you do not have the tools or not intend to get them- he shouldn't take any money for opening the watch up. I'm always writing this "warning", since there were a few times when I have heard of watchmakers who do take money for that (or rather take money for nothing, that's more like it).

I came across this thread when searching for information on Louis A. Leuba. All I've been able to find is that the company was established on 7 July 1952 and was dissolved on 7 October 1996. I have two chronographs by this company, both with the good-quality Venus 188 movement and each of which cost me under ÂŁ200. They will probably cost more than that to service. It's somewhat crazy that there are other watches with the same movement that would cost getting on for ten times the price of these. Anyway I like these and if anyone's interested in seeing them, here they are. Both dials are original and unrefinished. There's a bit of plate loss and I'll probably get the black one replated. I've test-run them for a day and they both keep excellent time.
