Hi all I have the MOD 2a..

I've owned it for a few years now.
I'm 61,as most can attest that are beyond 45 or so,you need very good light,or get the reading glasses to read the date.

I've added many "cyclops" style date magnifiers in the past.

I use the UV system, with Sapphire type bubbles they all look real good.

What ya think about adding a magnifier to a MOD 2A???

Many reasons not to.
Personal reasons to do so.......

No this isn't my everyday watch. No I don't really have to have the ability to read the date when wearing it....

I suppose, most viewers would be against the idea ???

My last order of magnifiers from Borels is nearly depleted.
I have one left that would fit this watch perfectly.....

Should I or not ???
Personally,I think it would be just another MOD to an already great
setup.
Most owners of the MOD 2A,are getting older.
Sooner or later they'll be glad that they found one with this MOD already
done.

What cha think..... ???? :-! o|

P.S. I would love to have the addition of both Orange hands....
Plus Green tip sec hand..... Zowwie..........!

I'm 48 and getting to where I can't see the dates and things on my watches. I went ahead and didn't bother with a day or date on the Stingray I ordered a little while back. It should be in here in a couple or three weeks now :)

I like this one. No day or date, it's big, good lume, and an a automatic. One of my favorites.

I'd go ahead and do it. In fact I have an LRRP and I'm thinking about doing them same thing with it. Although the black number on the white backgrond helps, I believe the date magnifier will make it much more legible. I use the date a lot on my watches so this will be a welcome mod. Cheers!

My arms are too short too! I need glasses to see the details of my watch and without my glasses I would be unable to read the date.

I think the condition of your eyes is a valid reason to add a date magnifier. Go ahead and do it. It's not a matter of taste or design. After all, it's your watch and what's the point owning a watch that's not fully up to your needs!

And please post some pics after you've done the conversion!

while is not something that is currently in the works I am going to explore the idea of integrating a magnifier into a sapphire crystal like Panerai does. However it will involve more study and deliberation. But the idea is to offer a magnifier option but keep the outside of the crystal smooth. I wonder though how it would affect water resistance though.

The idea of an "internal" magnifier would be a great option. I for one would use it and it would keep the top surface of the LRRP crystal uncluttered. I'm looking at my LRRP on my wrist right now and can only think that a magnifier would enhance an already truly great tool watch (for me) :-!. That way I can travel with my watch and not have to angle the watch to catch the right light to read the date. I tried watches without dates (Rolex Sub, etc.), but somehow can't seem to function without it.

For the next watch I have in mind I will probably try it there first. The issue I can see is just making sure the crystal lines up properly with the date window. UV glue and attaching it to the outside is almost easier since I could do it when the crystal is already installed.

I always liked the day/date magnifiers, for example, in the vintage watches. Omega I think has one or two in its current line up.

I'd really like a magnifier. But please consider putting a real one.

I mean the magnifiers sported by the average sub-like watches (Sandoz, MarcelloC and the like) are pathetic : just as bad as any fake, with their x1.5 ratio.

IMO, MKII ought to use x2.5 magnifiers, just like RLX.

If I can't get a "real" one done I won't use them at all. My guess is that the x2.5 magnifier may be expensive or hard to do. But I will explore it as it may just be a matter of cost rather than difficulty.

I think you should go ahead and add it. It is worth your time because it is because you needed the date, that's why you got the date version. I am 40 and I already added one such cyclops to my date watch. I am now considering whether to add to my new Quad 10. :)

Like some of the readers, the only problem is getting the real magnifier - the Rolex type. The market is flooded with the 1.5x ones. Sigh...

FWIW, some of the vintage Rolex guys agree with the folks who don't like the cyclops.

Turns out that Rolex offered the superdome as an option if customers asked for it on several models.

These are not my watches. The first three show watches with non-standard crystals (but an available Rolex config) that have been retro-fitted.

These shots show the crystals that normally came with these watches. Since they are all plexi, the cyclops is molded to the crystal.
