I just caught wind of Breitling’s new in house 3 hand movement, the B31. Looks nice and slim spec wise. No full balance bridge or silicon hairspring though.

The 3 hand top time is the vanguard for this new movement. Looks nice if not a DJ competitor. Comes in at 10.3 mm thin!

Why so quiet on here? I would’ve expected chatter on the forums or even the Breitling sub but crickets so far. If I didn’t have an AT already I would consider buying this. I want to reward Breitling for what I see as a step in the right direction.

A bit too close to the SRPK87 which is a homage to the late 90s early 2000s Seiko SNSX series of watches.

I'm not seeing the glaring similarities myself, aside from number of hands and the stainless steel case!

OK, maybe the hands are a LITTLE similar.

A new Transocean with this movement could be interesting.

That is because Tudor is related to Rolex. The Coaxial isn't an inhouse movement but one subcontracted by ETA so it is not really comparable with Tudor and Breitling's movement.
Isn't that the same as saying Tudor subcontract their movements from Rolex? :cautious:

I was wondering the same. Pretty much the only Breitling I'd consider.

I was thinking of this Hamilton as soon as I saw the blue version. Which only leaves the white dial for me to consider.

If Tudor had released this then the forums would be buzzing. Breitling does it and people snooze on it.

In some ways I hate to say it makes me question my AT. Much thinner and better clasp with micro adjust. Although, no screw down crown, no anti magnetic properties, and lower WR stop me from doing anything drastic. Also, I like all the tech in the Omega (coaxial, master C, etc).

It offers much more performance than Omega's Coaxial subcontracted by ETA, it even beats the Tudor MT5612 regarding power reserve. Wait until it will be introduced in the Breitling divers and you will appreciate the product. It is a product adressed to the new Breitling clientèle, attractively priced and of the highest quality. Breitling is the best bang for the buck on the market actually. Remember back in 2009, the B01 astounded the watchmaking world, now Breitling does it again with the B31 , no it is not a watch on waiting list and not it doesn't have the crown. But it does boast a 78hour of power reserve and it is not a Tudor derivative, nor a Sellita and nor a Myota movement but something 100% inhouse. You will hardly find something that can compare with an inhouse movement of this quality at this price.

Coincidentally, I just received an email from Zelos on their upcoming new release that is also related to motoring:

Coming back to the Breitlings, they have a clean look that I like. I am not sure I’d be willing to pay the MSRP though. This could due to my general lack of interest in the brand. I’d be more likely to buy a Chopard Mille Miglia even though their watches cost more if I am looking for a watch with motoring connections. Or even a Tag Heuer Monaco.

Thanks for sharing @Tarl13. To me it's pretty attractive, especially in green. And I love cyclops. Great sizing, interesting movement.

To answer the ' quietness' question: probably brand's perception as being big and flashy. I, for one, do not follow Breitling for this reason.

I totally agree on 3 day power reserve, it should be already a standard. My Mido TV Screen with Powermatic is so much more handy, specially after the weekend 😀

I personally would choose this Breitling over DJ. However the price is unjustifiable high. My $0.02.

I believe you are correct.

I just left a Breitling store. They had all 3 dials on bracelet. Thinness beats out Omega. I love domed crystal as compared to DJ/most Rolex.

Because the blue looks like a Hamilton I would not pick it. But the vertical brushing on that dial... wow! Beautiful dial.

I like the white dial. The blue outer on that dial transitions the bezel to the white part of the dial beautifully.

Nice bracelet, but the clasp is fantastic. No worries there.

The crown was not as easy to handle as my Tudor BB. Very secure feeling when pushed in.

This was my first experience with Breitling. They look much better in person than any pics I've seen.

Overall a positive experience.

This model is right up my alley as someone who really likes midsize sports watches like the AT and OP. Great size, clean style, micro-adjust bracelet. I don't even mind the magnifier. The only feature that I'd really like to see is some kind of extra magnetic resistance. The AT is METAS certified to 15000 gauss, Rolex's movement are all inherently highly resistant (IIRC, they'll tolerate 1000 gauss without an iron cage) and Richemont has elevated resistance (over 1000 gauss) with the likes of the Baumatic and its IWC cousin the 32111.

I'm curious to see what else Breitling does with it in the future. It's an interesting caliber, but this particular watch is so terminally bland that it could substitute for gruel in Oliver Twist.

"No, sir..I'm good actually."

They need to put the caliber in their divers then I might consider a purchase.
