Hi all!
I wanted to share with you some photos from my newest purchase. A Nomos Zurich True Blue World Timer!
I am quite new to collecting, just started this year (though have always been into watches since a kid). I've purchased a few watches this year to get me started, but thinking about collecting I've decided to do something to add some meaning to my collecting.
I work in the film/TV industry and recently finished producing a TV show for a few months in New Orleans. It was a pretty big job for me, first network TV show as a producer and one of the 4 people in charge with creative on the show. So I thought this would be a great time to acquire a watch as a milestone / memento for the job.
So I set out looking for a watch and thinking about what would be appropriate and meaningful during production to purchase when we wrapped. Now the Nomos doesn't have any specific meaning (maybe that it's a GMT watch and I traveled for the gig, and the deep blue sorta is reminiscent of New Orleans to me) but the one thing I knew I wanted to do to attach some meaning to the piece is to get a Louisiana Alligator strap. So I did a bunch of digging and found a cognac Louisiana alligator strap from TheWatchPrince.com (as it turns out it's made by a company called Stuller in Italy).
I also really like deployant clasps so I did a bunch of research on that and found RHD deployants from www.mywatchmaker.com to be the best, so I ordered one of those.
After we wrapped and I got back to LA and received everything, they arrived quickly and after an hour of learning how to remove and change a strap for the first time I had my memento timepiece! I'll always be able to look back at it and think about this moment in my career where I went to New Orleans to produce a show.
Onto the pics!
I really like the idea of attaching a big project to a watch purchase and I think I am going to do this moving forward. It's fun finding a timepiece that can carry some meaning in relation to what I was doing on the job, albeit if it is only a strap or a color.
