Hi!

How many hand wind turns do you have to do to hand wind a mioyta 9015? I have a 9015 watch but wear it only a few times a month. I hand-wind it daily with about 20 full rotations. It works but it seems like I may be over-winding it.

So question is, - how many winds should you make, and is there some sort of database for this?

I think it's about 20-25 turns to wind a 9015, but you don't need to worry about overwinding, as that movement has a slip clutch that will prevent damage if you overdo it.

I've always operated under the notion that it's best to wind just enough to get a movement going, and then let the rotor do its work while wearing the watch. That's sort of the point of an automatic isn't it?

I wind my watches with Miyota 9015 movements ( 5 of them ), as suggested by docvail, 40 180 degree turns to give them full power. I then put them on watch winders set to clockwise turning only and 860 turns per day. My watches are always ready for "grab and go". Cheers, Bill P.

Per the Citizen/Miyota spec/manual:

Operating method

Winding the mainspring, adjusting the hand, date is done by the below procedure.

(1) Winding the mainspring
Automatic winding watch can be also manual-winded by turning the crown in "A" position. Wind 15 ~ 20 times clockwise until second hand starts to move naturally.
