Hi all,

I'm seriously contemplating buying a solid 14K gold Seamaster with a 'waffle crosshair dial'. The condition appears gorgeous. Seller is asking $2.5-3k USD for it. I think given condition, this seems fair, at least within what I would personally expect to pay. But do chime in if you have any thoughts about this.

It houses the cal. 354. I was wondering if anybody here is able to inform me of 1. the reilability of the movement, 2. parts availability for the movement, and just generallty if this is one to avoid or to embrace?

I I got a broken one, fixed and recased as a fun project.

parts are widely available on eBay, a bit on the expensive side. It’s one of the easiest bumper movements I have worked with, much easier than Revue and Mido.

Not quite sure about the reliability, but most of my watches are from the 1910s, so a bumper movement from 1950 would be far more reliable than anything WW1. I guess all bumper movements are a bit finicky anyway, if you compare to the latter automatic from omega than that’s another story.

Mine movements cost £220, another £30 for parts, but it’s a higher grade chronometer. A standard SeaMastee I assume you can get a completed & running movement below £200 from eBay. I always think omega is least to worry about parts and repair, the movements are quite cheap compared to the watch price.

The Omega Forum guys only seem to know about newer models. Vintage O posts don't seem to get much action.

I think the watch looks great. I think the dial looks perfect; markers and crosshairs like up, and the font is what I would expect it to look like on a textured dial like this. I also like the Omega bumpers. It has the heavier case, so there's going to be more gold content, but I still think the price is about $1K more than what solid gold Omega's are selling for on sites like ebay. It may be worth the price if you are getting a warranty on it.
