I challenge my fellow Affordable lovers to post a 'Better bang for your buck" Blue face Automatic Diver than this ORIENT Kamasu on a 'Strapcode for Kamasu' Oyster bracelet. I'm less than 250.00 all in and this thing Rocks!
41mm, Sapphire w/ polished sides to match the polished Sides of the Strapcode Oyster. It's a beauty. But keep in mind that the after market Strapcode bracelet is a critical component. The factory bracelet is awful and cheapens the watch terribly. But the actual watch itself is outstanding. Once I removed the factory bracelet and examined the watch and it's casing, it's remarkably well done. There's nothing ' cheap' about it. Quite the contrary, it feels expensive. It feels more like an ORIS than a Seiko

And I'm picky. Real picky. But I'm not a Snob. I wear everything from Swatch / G-Shock to OMEGA/ Rolex.

So, With that, let's have some fun. I challenge you guys to show me something better under 250.00

Here are some 'Quick & Dirties' I took at Cafecito Organico in Los Angeles, while out on a Motorcycle ride :

I imagine the Seiko folk will have something to say about best value dive watches but it’s true that Orient can produce a lot for a little. How does do it accuracy wise?

Indeed, this post could inevitably cause a ruckus w / Seiko guys. But that's always a good thing.....Comparison/ Debate/ analysis always informative
As far as Kamasu accuracy goes, I've yet to do a formal analysis. But first glance is maybe + 18 , 20 sec. maybe less. I'll post more on this

Yes, This watch in fact Sports the F6922 movement! Which is a rebranded version of the Orient F67XX movements (like the F6742), which have been used in the much more Costly $$ Orient 'Star' line since the late 2000s

I love this...almost bought the red dial.

Agreed! One of the best bangs for the buck (or euro, etc.). One of my top favorite watches at any price.

It's much better in the Orient bracelet, which doesn't have those silly male end links that expand the lug-to-lug by 6mm

I have the teal dial Kamasu on a SC jubilee. It's a satisfying, inexpensive package. As far as the finishing of the watch head, I'd say it's solid if unspectacular. If you look closely, the watch betrays its budget origins. The transitions between brushed and polished surfaces are not especially crisp. I can look past the cosmetics given the price but I have a real issue with the crown, which is absolutely ****ing awful. Not only is it undersized but it's polished, which means it doesn't offer much grip. A dive watch crown should be beefy and grippy. This one is neither.

The bracelet is definitely an upgrade over stock but SC's machining could be better. My clasp doesn't lock positively unless you press down (very) hard and the flip-lock portion is a little rattly. After hearing so much hype about Strapcode, I've gotta say I'm underwhelmed.

Yes, I don't care for the Strapcode Jubilee either. The 'Oyster' on the other hand is terrific. It's their signature Piece. But I think they missed the mark on their rendition of the jubilee. Just my opinion.

As far as the Kamasu case finish, At this price point , I'm fine with it. I would argue it's as good or better than higher priced micro brands that come outta Hong Kong like Helson and Armida

It's a nice watch but it feels a bit boring to me. I can't point anything wrong with it, on the paper is best in the class, but.. I just grabbed a padi turtle for around 300usd, new with the pappers. Padi turtle just feels special, unusual in comparison to the kamasu.

Kamasu is a much better size for most. Say what you want about the lug to lug, but 45mm is still a big watch. I sold my Padi because it felt too big for my 7 inch wrist.

Great thread. I want to play.

In general. I think Orient is one of the top brands that consistently offers the most bang for anyone's dollar. With that being said.

Out of my own toy box I think I have a few great bang for anyone's dollars.

I think the first generation Orient Mako USA was an amazing bang for the money. If I recall the first gen USA cost about $250 +\- a few dollars. Came in a beautiful white, blue and an average black dial. Very nice case finish, drilled lugs, some of the best, brightest and longest lasting lume on the dial. Along with sapphire crystal, solid end links and of course an in house movement. Even though the movement was older with no hacking.

(PS. I think the first gen Mako/Ray,USA look the best with the two crowns.)

(I did install a left over Pepsi bezel insert from a another project. Original insert was all black)

Another great bang for anyone's dollars and is still available would be Deep Blues Military Diver 300. It's Deep Blues version of an SKX AND everything a lot of watch nerds would like in a Seiko SKX but could not get unless they modded an SKX. The Military Diver 300 has sapphire crystal, ok lume, hacking NH36 movement, slightly deeper water resistance rating and an escape valve. Sure an escape valve is useless really. But how many of us have cars full of features that we never use? Plus it's a bit bigger than an SKX that a lot of folks like. They retail for $250 but can always be had new with Deep Blues often available 40% off codes for a price of $150.

Another bang for ones dollars are buying "refurbished" watches. I've bought a few. No complaints. Not a mark on them and work flawless. I bought my second Bulova Lunar Pilot for $175 as a "refurbished" watch. It's perfect in every way.

Sent from my toilet using Kakatalk. Flushed with only a single wipe.

I agree with the OP that the Kamasu WITH A STRACODE BRACELET is an excellent watch for the money. In fact, I have the same watch in red, with the same bracelet. To be fair though, the Kamasu bracelet is far better than the SKX version, but that isn't difficult!! That said, for a similar price their are better watches with a micro brand logo on the dial.

I am going to argue this. You can get a Seiko NH36, sapphire crystal and lumed ceramic bezel for even less.... The Aragon Divemaster 42.

Where this falls short is the lume on the hands. The lume on the bezel and indexes is top notch, though. But since it's an NH36, your options for hands are endless. I had SKX style hands from Long Island Watch installed on mine.

I know this is slightly off-topic - but I'm curious:
How have you fellow Kamasu owners found the bezel action/back play? I just modded mine with an LIW coin-edge bezel and a 12-hour sapphire insert, and I'm noticing a slight amount of back play. Not sure it's the mod, the aftermarket bezel, or a quirk of the watch itself. View attachment 15650765 View attachment 15650765
I've got the original bezel on mine with zero back play.
