Orient Ray II - Do you see the gap in the crown?

I need some help with your opinion.

I bought Orient Ray II from reputable AD recently. Right after setting the time, I noticed that the crown would not tighten to be flush with the watch. I checked the original Mako I have as well as official pictures from Oirent USA for Ray II and AD's picture on their web site. Those all look pretty flush.

I sent AD the picture and they were very responsive and immediately sent out a replacement and when I receive that, I sent in my original watch and asked them to check it and let me know what was wrong since the replacement was about same as original in terms of the crown not being flush with the watch body.

I got a response from them today and basically telling me that there's nothing wrong with the watch (first and second one). They are telling me that it's simply a reflection of the crown bevel. For me, I can clear see the physical gap and even a thread that's not being covered by the crown.

If anyone has Ray II, can you check your watch and compare that to the photo I've attached and let me know whether this is "normal" or not?

Thanks!

Post a picture of the engraved side of your crown. I have a Blue Ray II I bought from Long Island watch right after they came out. That engraved is 3D and the crown is large and sits flush with the case. I just bought a black Ray II from Amazon a week or so ago and this crown is smaller, has a laser etched crown and appears to have a gap but it’s just the shape of the crown on the side of the case. It’s actually fully seated, just that side of the crown isn’t flat. It’s almost like there was a second generation crown

My Mako USA II has a small gap. At first I thought it was because I was cross-threading the crown.

On close inspection, the threads are fine. That’s just as far as the small crown screws down.

Everyone seems to agree that a bigger crown would be nice. It’s not a deal breaker for me.

I find this totally unacceptable. I have a new Ray II coming from eBay very soon. Got it at a great price... $125 shipped. I would be very interested in swapping out the original crown for a larger aftermarket crown and just be done with the one issue that has plagued this otherwise beautiful dive watch. Does anyone here know the proper dimensions for a replacement, (thread diameter on the stem and tube)? Once these two variables are known it shouldn't be difficult to source the parts and simply swap out the crown. Has anyone done this?

Thanks, Craig C.
